A T THE HAMPTON RACE COURSE, on
\ Thursday tiie 17th instant, a small POCKET
WALLET containing the following Bank bills: a
10 dollar bill on the Bank of Columbus, two on
the Georgia Hail Road Bank, one 10 and one sdol
lar bill —the one for 5 on the Bank of Hamburgh,
the others not recollected ; in all about forty-three
dollars. It also contained the following notes: —
One on Henjamin’Pine for two hundred and seventy
nine dollars and forty-eight cents; one on C.C. Tal
iaferro for eighty-six dollars and fifty cents, dated
14th December, ’IS4O; one on C. Salm for lifty-six
dollars and forty ednts; one on Dennis Josephs for
fifty dollars —the above named persons reside in
Augusta; one on illiam caihoun, ot Geoigij, foi
ninety-five dollars? two on J. J. Foster, of South
Carolina, one for about fifty and the other for fifty
eight dollars, with a credit of forty-four dollais on
it; one on Mr. Teag, of the same Mate, a.nou >t
not recollected; one on Sibley & Cook,oi Ham
burg, amount not recollected; the receipt of John
M. Cooper & Son for a note on William C. W iley,
of Cass county, Georgia, lor four bundled and
twenty-six dollars; Thomas Chaim s two receipts,
one for a nMe of seventy live dollars on Hezekuh
Ellington of Georgia, and the other lor a note on
Abner 3rister, of Georgia, for upwards of one hun
dred dollars; one on Gibson & McLlaugnlm,of Au
gusta, for lour hundred and four dollars, with a
credit of one hundred and twenty dollars on it ~
All of the above notes are made payable eithei to
Tench Stegall or myself. There are several other
papers not recollected

are hereby warned not to trade tor said notes.

Tavern bill. 1 suppose 1 lost it at the ticket office

the 29th ult., a negro man about thirty-
or forty years old, stoat built, five
feet ten inches high, and ready spoken, who calls
himself MARCH .and says he belongs to Robert
Homes of Talbot county, Ga. He had, when ap
prenended, a paper purporting to be s pass, and
almost illegible, dated 22d July, 1840, granting him
leave to pass to Wynsborough, Fail field District,
South Carolina, until the 25th May next. The
owner of said slave is hereby required to come for
ward and prove his property, or the said slave
shall be dealt with according to the law ot the
State of South Carolina,
