AN ORDINANCE For prrf rving the City of Angujla, from the ravages of fire. BE it ordained hy the city council of » Augiifta, That from and immediate. | ]y after the parting of this ordinance, the \ sire-master (hall nominate, and by, and i with the consent of the city council, ap point one fit and proper person for each fire engine, which now is, or may hereafter he in the city, as managers, for and dur ing the term of one year, whose duty it (ball he to enrol, for each fire engine, also for the term of one year, twelve able bodied adive male (laves or free persons of colour, workers in the city, to aflift in working the engines ; which said mana gers, so appointed, and the (laves or free persons of colour, so enrolled, (hall at all times he fubjeft to the commands of the sire-master, but more especially in times of alarm ; and as a compensation for the lervices of the (laves or free persons of co lour, they (hall each be allowed fifty cents for each time they may he called out by the sire-master, to be paid out of the trea sury. And be it further ordained, That all vacancies which may happm in the ap pointmctit of managers, (haU-.be filled without delay in the fame manner as is herein before pointed out ; and if any per. appointed manager under this or dnance, (hall refufc to accept, or .after having accepted, (hall fail to obey the or ders given by the sire-master from time to time, such person, on convidion thereof before the council, (hall pay a fine not Exceeding thirty dollars, unless an excuse, to he judged of hy the council, be render, ed for such refufal or failure. And bejjfcfurther ordained, That when ever there may be an alarm of fire, it (hall be the duty of each manager to run to the engine which is afligned him, and also the duty of each (lave or free person of colour, wder his diredion to join him there, and proceed with the engine, with all poflible " jpcedjT to the place of danger, and when there, to obey with promptitude the or ders of the sire-master. And be it further ordained , That there (ball be a committee appointed to contract Ibr two hundred Leather Buckets, holding at lead two gallons each, to be numbered, and marked “ Corporation of Augu sta, ” the cxpcncc of which (hail be paid out of the treasury ; which said buckets when made, (hall be deposited, in equal number, with the engines at the places afligned. And whenever there may be an alarm of fire it (ball be the duty of each and every male white person above the age of 14 years, to proceed immedi ately to the place where the neared en gine is kept, and carry as many buckets As he can conveniently, to the place of danger, and when there, to form them fclves (under the direction of the fire, matter and managers) into a line from the wells or source of water pointed out to them, and aflift in conveying the water to the engines; and if any person (hall refufe to perform this duty, he (hall on convidion thereof pay a fine of five dol lars. SMYTH./ y November 27, TJ -IAM authorifed to olfer for Public Sale, sixteen thousand acres ot the Land granted by the Rate of Georgia to Vice Admiral Count D’Ettaing, being that part of the donation of the Rate, which the count fold in his lifetime,.— These lands lay in the counties of Jack son and Clarke, on waters of the north fork of Oconee river, some of them in the neighbourhood of the University. They abound in fpnngs of most excellent water, the foil of a considerable propor tion of them is productive, and their si tuation in point of salubrity interior to none in the Rate. They will be divided into lots of convenient sizes, for the ac commodation of purchasers; the titles are indisputable. The falc will commence at the house of Mr. Francis Nunn, near the mouth of Parkes’s creek, on Monday the 17th day of January next; the con ditions will be one third caih in hand, and the balance in one and two years after the falc. ON the fame day, and at the fame place, 1, as Attorney in fad for Madame Taney, (hall offer for sale the refidne of the Land granted by the State to count D’Ettaing, which the count re served in the sale of the 16,000 acres re ferred to in Mr. Wailes’s advertisement, ro the time of his decease. To this part of the land Madame Taney derives her j title by purchase from the legitimate heir of the count, as w ill be (hewn by indis putable vouchers on the day of sale.
