You may judge of the politics of the « SEVENTEENTH STATE,” by the elections for members of that body; 26 republicans, 7 tedcrp.l ifts, 2 doubtful. Our representative to to .grefs, and our two members of the senate of the United States, will undoubt, edly be republicans. WARREN TON, Nov, 22. In announcing to the public that Peter Early, Esq. is a candidate to serve the people of this Hate in the congress of the United States, unril the 4.11 of March next, in lieu of his Excellency John Mil ledge, we think proper to observe—That this appointment will not interfere with that to which Mr. Early has been lately elefted, bccaafe, under his late appoint, rtient he is no member of congress until after the end of the ensuing feflion, which will expire on the 3d day of March next, and it is for this felfion that the eleftion is now about to be held ; Nor do we con ceive that it can have the fmallcft tenden. cy to any thing like a grasping at appoint ments. The public have evinced their confidence in the talents and integrity of Mr. Early, by the honorable vote con. sered on him in the late eleftion for two years after the next feflion ; if then he is qualified to serve us after that time, sure ly he is equally entitled to our confidence until then, and we humbly conceive, the sooner thofc talents and abilities, for which he is so eminently diftinguifned, are brought into aftion, the more the interest and dignity of this Hate will be prorefted and advanced upon the floor of congress.
