The increasing cultivation of this all important staple may be seen b> reference to our Annual Statement for three years past. Total crop of 1824-5, 569.249 bales. Do. do. 1825-6, 72”,.>27 do. Do. do. 1826-7, 957.281 do. CONSUMPTION. The quantity manufactured in the U. States Sas been variously estimated at 100 to 150.000 bales per annum. It is matter of regret that no positive data can be found on which to rest these estimates. If we take the total crop of the United States, for the year end ing 20th September last. 957,281 bales. Deduct therefrom the export to loreign ports for the same period. 807,765 do. And assume that the stock on hand at the close, of each year was the same—it will result that the con sumption, for the year ending 30th September last, was ° 149.516 do.
