New York, July 81.—Thousands of
people congregated around the Bellevue
Hospital this morning, eager to hear
something from their friends who were
supposed to have been killed or injured
bv yesterday’s explosion. A large force
of police wore engaged in preserving or
der. A general rush and excitement was
occasioned. Of tho forty dead bodies
that were brought to tho Bellevue Hos
pital yesterday, twenty have already been
removed by their friends for interment.
Nine of the bodies still at tho hospital,
have been recognized, and will bo re
moved to-day.
In the morgue thero are eleven victims
of the explosion yet unrecognized. On
one slab are tho bodies of a woman and
two children; on another slab, those of
a woman and child, and on another, that
of a woman; there are five bodies of men,
Most of tho bodies present a frightful
appearance, for in addition to tho fact
that they are swolen and tho features dis
torted by water, they have, in most cases,
been terribly scalded. Sinco early morn
ing a regular stream of people have been
passing in solemn file in and out of the
morgue, either from curiosity to witness
tho awful spcctaclo of the unrecognized
dead lying there, or with a painful inter
est of trying and yet fearful of not recog
nizing amoug the yet unknown victims
the features of relative and friend. Thero
aro about sixty injured victims of the
explosion iu tho wards at Bellevue Hos-
E ital. The surgeons state that at least
alf of them aro beyond recovery.
fpAbout 9 o’clock this morning the body
of Matildy Nelson, aged seven, killed by
the explosion, was found in the water at
the slip of Staten Ferry.
The latest news from the disaster is
that CO were killed and 120 wounded,
H. W. Wilson, merchant of Louisville.
Kentucky, was severely scalded. Colonel
Muchi will die.
Laltti Particular* ct the iHeatter,
Fifty-nine deaths have been reported
thus far, and one hundred and forty-two
wounded.
Tho Westfield attracts large crowds to
where she lies moored at the foot of East
13th street, in chargo of Coroner Young.
All human remains, bits of clothing, etc.,
have been removed by the firemen to tho
Morgue.
The force of the explosion was upward,
blowing away the main deck, the cabin
deck and the hurricane deck, in almost a
straight line across, a little forward of
tho center of the boat. Tho bulwarks
forward were blown away, and the metal
shade around tho funnel lies at tho bow,
crumpled as if it had been paper. Iron
pipe, an iuch thick, joined to the steam
supply chest, was torn away like cloth
and hurled against the side of tlio boat.
Two water tanks wero forced backward
toward the stem a considerable distance.
The after part of the cabin is compara
tively uninjured.

London, July 31.—The chief theme of
conversation in all circles to-day, as
well as editorials in tho journals, is tho
expected introduction in the House of
Commons to night, of a proposition to
censure the government for abolishing
the purchuse of army commissions by
royal warrauts.
The meeting at Hyde Parke to agitato
tho people against tho allowance for
Prince Arthur, was a feeble affair. An
other meeting has been called which tbo
government has prohibited.
Dispatches from Dublin report that

of St. Paul’s Churoh, died to-day, aged
57.
Thirty of tho Neweaetlo strikers have
gone to tho United States.
In tho House of Lords to-day, Earl
Granville, in moving a favorable answer
to tho Royal message in behalf of Prince
Arthur, urged that the demand only ful
filled a contract made at tho beginning
of the reign of the Queen. Ho spake
in terms of eulogy of tho Prince, whose
visit to Canada, had secured the affec
tion of tho colonists.
Tho Duko of Richmond heartily secon
ded the motion, which was carriod with
out division.
Tho Duko of Richmond then moved a
vote of censure of the Queen’s message
as an unworthy ministerial resort. He
denounced, in strong languago, the
speeches made at the banquet at the Man
sion House, Saturday, in relation to tho
treaty of Washington, and claimed that
the royal prerogative was much strainod
in the ratification of that instrument
without tho assent of Parliament.
Earl Granvillo spoke in defense of the
message as responding simply to the pre
vious action of the Commons.
In tbo Houso of Commons, Mr. Glad
stone stated that unless the bill relative
to elections wa3 passed Tuesday, an Oo-

Mr. Peter Alfred Taylor, the member
for Lancaster, denounced the proprietor

country than be its pensioner.
Tbo House of Commons to-night
passed tho bill granting an allowance o;

27G to II.
A meeting was held at Trafalgar Square
to-night to protest against the allowance
to Princo Arthur. Five thousand people
wero in attendance. Speakers addressed
the masses at different points, and much
cxcitcmont was manifested. The entire
rcservo polico was called out, and seized
a Communist flag, carried by ono Chebs,
amid boisterous demonstrations. Some
fighting is reported and arrests have been
made. Tho meeting adjourned in disor
