Means, Kinloy, Howard, Qcn. Browrfe and Mr. Capors Bpokeon the sub ject. Finally, on motiou of Mr. Swett, the resolution and action of the Conven tion of yesterday wos indefinitely post poned. Resolutions of thanks to railroads, by Qcn. Browne, and another, by Col. How ard, of thanks to tho citizens to Romo for hospitalities, were unanimously ndopted. The Committee on County Reports re- ported that, ns tho time was too lim ited to digest the same, the whole mutter was referred to tho Secretory to report at the next meeting. Dr. James, of Grccuo, read uu able es say on the culture of clover and grasses and recommended their general culture in Georgia. The essay is to bo printed. Governor Brown stated that thirty- three thousand bales of iiay had Ireon imported from the West, over the Wes tern & Atlantic Railroad, alone, within tho last six months, hut ho hoped this would be changed, and Georgia make herself independent. CoL Yancy and Dr. Aiken, of South Carolina, spoke ably on the same sub ject Dr. Means oddressod tho Conven tion on fertilizers. A resolution by Mr. Davis, of Thomas, was adopted, asking the General Assembly to pass a law amending tho tax digest so us to show a complete census of tho acreage products planted in ihe Btate, and of the commer cial fertilizers used. Judge Dupont, of Florida, addressed the Convention on the subject of Emi gration. Col. Chambers, of Columbus, Col. Yancey, Mr. Adams, of Monroe, and other distinguished gentlomen, advocated the introduction of foreign labor. The Committee on State Agricul tural Journal, reported the establishment of such n journal inexpedient, and sug gested tho Plantation and Farm and Home as ofiieial journals for the Society; tabled. The resolution requesting the repeal of the revenue tax on the distilhitidu of fruits in the South was tabled. The Committee decided tnat its next meeting bo held in Macon, on the 2fid of October next, so as to make the ques tion of Congressional land script ready for Legislative action. Adjourned. A meeting of the stockholders of tbo North A South Railroad was held to day. Tho following officers were elected McDongald President; W. D. Chiplcy, Secretary and Treasurer; Col. Lane Chief Engineer. The Board of Directors are McDongald, Redd and Choriy, of Columbus ; Bing ham of LnGrango; Bunn, Polk county; Griffith and Burns, Floyd oonnty. A fusion between tho Fenian wings is probable. The steamship Queen boiug overdue some anxiety is felt, ns Judge Dowling and Lydia Thompson and her troupe of blondes are aboard. The police discredit the rumors that on attack will be made on the Italian pro cession on the 25th. The owner of a steamboat was arrested to-day charged with employing on engi neer who had no certificate. Ho was re leased on bail, It is apprehended that Thurlow Weed will not survive the passage home. The Executive Committee of the Union Paeiflo Railroad Company have consum mated a contract by which the rote. of fore and freight will bo materially ad vanced, KENTUCKY, SO,OOO flowniie JSdprlty. Tht Arfatetvrr Msrlar Columbus, August 11.—The coroner's verdict was that poison was administered to Peter Buffenberger by some person or persons unknown to them. Prof. Wormly’s evidence shows tlmt it was possiblo to introduce arsenic into tho liver after death ; but did not diaoover sufficient arsenic to produce death under ordinary circumstanoes, but finding the trace, there was no proof that a larger quantity was not present at the timo of death. San Fhancisoo, August 11.—The ab sorption of the California Pacific Railroad with the Central Pacific Railroad, was completed yesterday by the eleotioa of Lelond Stanford, of the Central, at Pres ident; Milton S. Latham, os Treasurer, and all the board of the Central Pacific Railroad as direotors. The burning of snowaheds delayed the Pacific trains twelve hours. On the 26th ultimo, Cook, with his command, was at tho head of Wcepaba Canon, Arizona. The Apochee Indians in Arizona and Sonora ore very ootive. The barometer Las fallen slightly at the Rocky Mountain Stations since Thursday afternoon, and lias lisen in tho extreme Northwest. Tho area of lowost pressure, which was in Wisconsin, has moved Southeastward, and now extenda from Southern lUinoia to Lake Ontario. Severe local storms have marked it* pro gress, and light rains, with threatening weather, now prevail very generally from Ontario to Arkansan The barometer has fallen on tho Gnlf Coast, and rain is again reported from Louisiana to Florida and North Carolina. Tho pressure has varied but little on tho Middle and East Atlantic, where clear and hazy weather has prevailed, with Southeast and East erly winds. Clear and warm weather will probably be experienced on Saturday from Missou ri to take Huron, and Westward. Low Barometer, with cloudy weather, will probably continue from Louisiana to West V*., and Eastward. London, August 11.—Russia is rapidly adopting Prussia's military organizations. The Emperors of Germany and Aus tria meet at Ischol to-morrow. It is sup posed that they will consult over the in tended alliance of Austria and Franoe. The Pope has written a letter declining a Throne of Gold. Ho proposes that the money suliscribed for tho throne be ap propriated to the purehaso of exemptions from Military service for ten students of Catholic Seminaries. A terrific explosion of gun cotton oc curred to-day at Stow Market, a market town in the county of Suffolk. Several persons were killed. Further explosions are apprehended. Charles Buxton, a Member of Parlia ment for East Sworey, an eminent re viewer and a leader in the educational movement, died to-day at tho age of fifty years. The Moant Cenis tunnel is complete. Tho announcement is mode that it will be formally opened in September, In the Houso of Lords to-day, Lord Rodsdale questioned the right of tho United States to maintain its demand for indemnity for damages oommitted by the Alabama, now that the American Gov ernment hod granted amnesty to tho late rebols, and reconciliation with tho South was complete. He asked whether the Government intended to bring this point to the attention of the Arbitrators at Geneva, and proceeded to argue it at great length. Lord Granville replied that the ques tion of liability for the dopredatious of tho Alabama would bo argued in all its bearings before tho Arbitrators, by Sir Roundel Palmer and other eminent coun sel retained on the port of Great Britain, whoso interests would certainly not naffer for lock of able and learned defenders. FRANCE. Financial Matter*— Thter»’ Prolongation. Paris, August 11.—Bullion in the Bank of Franco has increased nearly V 000,000 of francs. The Committee on the Budget prqpono a tax of 3 per cent, on oil bonded goods, except corn and cool, and estimates the yield therefrom at 76,000,000 of francs per annum. It is thought that the vote upon tho prolongation of Thiers’ term will stand 800 to 280. The eleotiona lor Councils General will take place early in September. The tax bill is nnder discussion in the Assembly. The Party of the Bight in the Assem bly demands that Thiers’ term of office be prolonged. Te Printer*.
