Saratoga, August 28.—Morselle won the first race—time 1511. There was tremendous interest in the great race between Longfellow and Helm bold. Daring the first 3 milt* Longfel low gained from one to two lengths. Helmbold )>eg&n to gain on the last ighth of the third mile and passed under the striug half a length ahead. Lonfel low lost Hteadily during the lust mile, Helmbold leading him three lengths at the first quarter, six at the half mile, and finishing sixteen lengths ahead, amid the most tremendous enthusiasm and cheers. He is organiziug the people, but will not call them into service unless authorized to do so by the Secretary of War. Tho area of low presure for tho coast of Georgia af ter causing heavy rains and brisk easterly winds, has veiy rapidly disappeared.— Cloudy and threatening weather is now ported in northern Florida, with south- Ty winds. The barometer has fallen during tho day from the lower Lakes to Lake Superior, after having risen con siderably during tho night Cloudiness has increased from Michigan to New York, and local storms have been report ed from Michigan to Missouri. Tho barometer will probably continue to fall, with light rains to-night. Clear weather will probably continue ou Thurs day from Michigan to Louisiana and westward. Paitiallv cloudy and clear weather, with fresh winds is probable for the middle and South Atlautic States. NEW BRUNSWICK. •I Champion Mlet. St. John, August 23.—The great four- oared race for the championship of tho world came off this morning. The bouts started at 7:25 and led alternately for five minutes. At 7:33 the St John was ahead; at 7:40 tho 8t. John was the only crew rowing, the Tyne crew having gouo ashore in consequence of ltenforth being taken with a fit. Thu St. John's crew rowed over the course winuer in for ty minutes and eleven seconds. It is stated that Thiers adopts the dis armament of the National Guard as a Government measure. The Court martiul establishes tho foot that tho Federate, disguisod as firemen, fed the flames n ith petroleum. Collet, a prison Director under the Commune, Hwears he received orders from Ferret to shoot the hostages, but declined to do so. The Asscmblv approves the new addi tional taxes unci decides to proceed im mediately to the discussion of the quej tion of disarmament of tljo National Guards.
