The steamer Wilmington, frowGuh^B
ton, picked up a boat on the 20th, con
taining Francis Munte, first mate, Min-
ard Kimmonds, second mate, and Lewis
Schlader, a seaman, belonging to thel
bark Limla, of Philadelphia, bound from
New York to New Orleans, which foun
dered in a hurricane on the 25th, in lati
tude 24 :34 and longitude 79:32. A boat
ooutiiniug Captain Smith, the steward
and four seamen left the bark and was in
oomjmny with the boat containing tho
mute until tho night of tho 25th, when
they got separated. Doth boats were to
steer northwest for the Florida coast after
tuking on water. Tho boats and crew of
tho Wilmington searched in different
directions for the boat containing Smith
and crew.
The same day, in latitude 18:25 and
longitude 79:44, the Wilmington spoke
the brig Dolphino, with the loss of her
main top must, und yards and square
sails blown uway from tho yards forward
in the hurricane of tho 25tli. She was
from the coast of Africa for New Orleans.

and twenty-nine deaths occurred in
Koenigsburg during the week, ending
the 25th, including 127 children. There
have been no deaths at Duntzig during
the last two days.

New Yoiik, August 29.—The steamer
Congress has returned from Oreeulaud
having made 2,500 miles in 13 days loss
tlmn tho usual running time. It passed
ono hundred icebergs on its return, but
no pucked ice. Thoseasou is very o|ien,

became perpetual as the steuwer ad
vanced North. The polar* sailed North
ward on the 17th, with throe partiug

gress. Tho Congress is the longest ship
ever in the Disco bay.
The mystery about the corpse being
in the trunk is clearing up, and Dr. Ja-

The National Dank of Newark, N. J.

This was endorsed as follows: “Pay to the
order of Thos. 8. Cossiduy,” and signed
“J. B. Cornell.” The signatures and
endorsements are correct, but the amount
was for only $7,000.
No Custom House appointments will
bo made until Boutwell’s return on the
15th of September.
The Postmaster-General furnishes the
following rontes on which contractors
have defaulted: Alabama,81 routes; Texas,
45; Arkansas, 50; Louisiana, 12, and sev
eral iu Virginia, West Virginia, North
Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Mississip
pi. From January, 1872, to June, 1875,
bidders will be required to forward certi
fied checks, with their bids, for five per
cent of their several bids on all amounts
over $5,000. Certificates of Postmasters
will be required in thirty-eight of the
more important routes to insure consid
eration. Postmasters designating tho in
structions of the Department regarding
certificates, will be subject to immediate
removal.

The barometer continues to full on the
California coast with westerly winds and
hazy weather. The area ol lowest pres
sure which was on Monday evening in

is uot stretching eastward beyond Lake
Huron und its influence has continued to
extend to the Gulf and Atlantic coast—
Southwest winds have prevailed from Il

lower lakes since this morning. Brisk
utterly winds arc now reported from
Yostcrdsy, after, tho .delivery of opinions, tho
Court aunouiiced that st 3 o'clock the Report of the
Commitoo appointed at tho lawt term to draft resolu
tions on tho death of Hon Eugeuius A. Kesblt would
be received. Tbo Hou. Washington Poe, Chairman
of the Committee, submitted tbo Report; it being
in substance the same tlmt was presented by the
Hon. CliiTord Amlcruou, chairman, to a meeting of
the Bar of Mariou in commemoration of the name
event.
The Report was very full—alluding to the private
and public life of the deceased. Lorn iu Green
oounty, Georgia, A. D. 1803—received hisacadtmlc
course under Rev. Dr. Ctunmiug, in the town of
Greensboro—entered the University of South Caro-
Columbia, iu 1814—soon alter transferred to
the University of Georgia, wheu he avt graduated.
He prosecuted his legal studios at Utchflold Law
School in 1825, returned to Georgia and and located
lu the town of MadiBou and engaged in the practice
of his profession. Soon after ho was married to Mias
Battle of Wilkes county.
While yet a young mau ho wa* chosen to repra-
tut his county iu the General Assembly. In 1837
he removed to the city of Macou. Iu 1839 he was
elected as a member from the State at Urge to the
Congress of the United States. In 1841 he resigned
account of his private affairs, lu 1845 ho was
elected one of the Judge* of tho Supreme Court,
which position he held for eight years. Through
out his long, honored and useful life, the higher
Uims upon his services wore not neglected—ho waa
long a ruling Elder ami diod within tho communion
of the Presbyterian Church.
Eulogies were pronouuced by tlio Hon. Washing
ton Poe and Hon. James Jackson, from the Commit
tee, upon tho life and public services of tho deceased,
which wore appropriately responded to by Judge
Warner, the early compeer of the deceased in the
Halls of Legislation and ou tho Beud,.
Chief Justice Lochranc, in behalf of the Court, re
sponded in a beautiful and touching allusion to the
character of tho deceased, as an finin>o jurist, up
right statesman and devout ClirisUaih and ordered
that a copy of the resolutions be outcred upon the
minutes of the Court, and printed iu the reports,
and that tho Court stand adjourned till 10 o'clock
to-morrow.
