JOHN WINTERS, in a harmless and friendly manner called ladj a “d—d liar.” Several wit nesses testified to tho fact that it was in fun. He acknowledged to two drinks just before ho went home, which no doubt assisted his tongue to utter those ugly words. After considernblo expla nation nli round, he was fined only five and costs. The up night passenger train from Ma con, duo in Atlanta at 10 o’olock Wed nesday night, left Macon on time, and made time to Griffin, leaving that place at the hour and making the usual run till about a milo this side of Fayette sta tion, at the plantation of Mr. llarefield, when the engine struck a large ox, throw ing tho entire train off. There was no possible chance to avoid running over tho ox, as ho appeared on the track, when the train at full speed was in a few feet of ,him. The entire twin was knocked off, but being in a cut the oars did not turn over. Two or three of the passengers in the ladies' oar were slightly bruised, but none of them seriously hurt. A negro passenger in jumping off the train after the ears were off the track, had his leg broken. It was providential that there wus not r greater amount of injury done to the passengers. The ox which tho engine struck, causing the accident, had a board tied over his face, it is said, to prevent it from jumping into the fields; but it looms that it also prevented it from gotting off the track—and it is a question now whethor a man liad best blindfold his cattle to save his crops, or blind-fold them and endanger the lives of passengers and tho property of the wilroads. The damage done was con siderable. The engine was seriously in jured, and tho cart badly damaged. Ono of tho fine passenger coaches recently built by tho Company suffered consid erable injury. The accident happened in a cut, aud it was necessary to build a track around the wreck. Captain White left Maoon at 1 o’clock yesterday morning, and reached tho sceuo of tho accident about 5 o’olock, with a foreo sufficient to cut down the embankment and lay a track beside the wreck, aud had the regular trains passing at 10 o’clock, preventing detention of passengers and freight, Tho passengers were brought to this city on a freight train at 3 o’clock yester day morning. This is tho first accident of any mo ment that has oocurred on this road since tho war, and we congratulate tho officers on the escape from a worse disaster. hearts. sOscUoua and gntitnAa of true usturaUjr torn, Ss the suu Mods 1U raj* Slosriug to ths God tt worships.
