Clelliuid, a procuress, has been arrested for enticing nine girls to leave on the steamer Citv of Galveston. Two of the jirls jumped overboard after the steamer tad got under way. The leaders iu the movement against the City Council, known as the political reform movement, arc working to secure the co-operation of all tlio clergymen in the Btate in the work. It is known that five-ninths of all the voters in the State are in the Protestant Churches. It is do exaggeration to say that the plaza was literally deluged with blood. At the present writing, Sunday, the 27tli, it is known that seven persons were killed, while it is estimated that the number of the wounded will reach as high as thirty, of whom seven or eight will die. From 5 this evening un til 6 the plaza resounded with pistol-shots and groaus, aud for fifteen minutes of the time the firing was incessant, and it continued during the rest of tho hour. The Republican and Democratic par ties had severally selected to-day ns the most suitable time for the grand demon stration of the campaign and, at an early hour this morning, both parties com menced their preparations. The leaders were evidently desirous of avoiding dis turbances. The respective parties formed iu proccssiou aud passed each other with out break. Nothing happened until the meetings lmil adjourned. At o o cioek, p. m., both parties met iu the plaza and exelianged differeut^views. A pistol shot was fired, when a general fight occurred. Men, womeu and children hurried to their houses, but the fight was kept up. posited the requisite amount to meet the check in bank, but the check was present ed before the time stipulated. Captain Cameron and Inspector Well ing think the last link in the evidence to convict Rosenwieg will be completed to night. Francis Haggerty, a Westfield victim, is dead. The Grand Jury have found true bills of indictment for manslaughter in the third degree against Jacob H. Vanderbilt, President of the Staten Island Ferry Company; James H. Braisted, Superiu dent, and Henry Robinson, Engineer.— An indictment for manslaughter in the fourth degree was presented against Jno. H. Mathews, United States Inspector of Boilers. A duel was fought on Long Island yes ; terday between two well-known gentle men, General Fardeli and Signor L.Carzi Fardeli challenged. He claimed to have been insulted by Carzi in a speech at the recent Italian festival. Sabres were used Fardeli received a severe wound in the shoulder, which necessarily ended the fight. The plasterers intend striking for eight hours. Reports from tho North and South show that there is an organized baud of burglars working in the towns along the Hudson. They have a number of vessels now in their employ. Poughkeepsie, September 2.—A mob broke into a house and tarred and feath ered tho occupant, who is accused of eloping with a married woman, whose husband led the mob. F-W-4 CALIFORNIA. Immense Arrival of Tea reau MPimeullles—T/te ' of China. San Francisco, September 2.—The China mail steamer Alaska has arrived thirty-six days from Hong Kong. Her cargo includes 54,665 packages of tea, the largest quantity ever landed from one ves sel in an American port. China and Ja pan quiet. Tho British war steamer Ringdove re turned from Corea with two Englishmen captured from the wreck of the Chnsau. They had been kindly treated and uo in dignity offered them. The German, re ported by the Chinese as captured at tho same time, is found to have been left with tho Chinese, who, it is supposed, mur dered him and invented tho story of his upturo by the Corci ns to conceal their crime. Shanghai papers published authentic letters from Hie Corean government to lion. Another fight took place at Antonoln- co, near Los Vegas, in which two persona were killed and six or seven wounded. Washinoton, September 2.—Tito Light House Board is taking prompt measures to repair all the Light Houses damaged by tlie recent cyclone. The letter was delayed for a few hours, and meanwhile, tho Wachusett sailed without it. Tho Gorman schooner Valodoro has been wrecked in Corean Straits. The crew escaped in boats, and wore picked up after great hardships. Japanese politics is quiet. The tea crop of Jo]>an is abundant. The silk product is from fifty to one hundred per cent, greater than for the last year, and of a superior quality, but the high prices check operations. London, September 2.—Walter Mont gomery, an actor recently returned from an American tour, suicided. He was married Wednesday to an American lady. The number of emigrants who sailed from Liverpool during August was 4,000 greater than the name month in any pre vious year. A strict quarantine has been establish ed on tbe Isle of Jersev to prevent the introduction of the cholera. Tho Amin, bound for Copenhagen, has been wrecked. Chicago, September 2.—The locomo tive of a Cincinnati express train explo ded near Springfield, kilting two em ployees. Lowell, September 2.—Mrs. Teresa Perkins was found in.the canal with two scalp wounds. She was thirty-two years of age. Detroit, September 2.—Two emigrant cars ran off the track. An unknown wo man’s neck was broken, and seventeen were injured. Long Branch, September 2.—A com mittee of the Warmouth faction of the Louisiana Republicans arc here, waiting fbr an interview with the President. Nashville, September 2.—A million and three-quarters of State bonds has been paid for the franchisement of tho Mobile and Ohio Railroad, reducing the State debt that amount. San Francisco, September 2.—The campaign against the Apaches, owing, it is alleged, to interferences of tho Peace Commissioners, is a total failure, but tbe canqiaign of the Apaches against white settlements is a complete success. St. Louis, September 2.— Edward Chamouth, alias Dedulau, a professional osteologist, was arrested, charged with swindling $3,000. Tbo steamer Carrie V. Kountz, which sank below Columbus, is valued at $30,- 000. A portion of the cargo can be sav- od.
