THE DAILY SUN Friday Morning Befteuueb 8. SotT Neui Advertisements always fuuna in firU fage; Lucal and Business Notices « fourth Page. SUN-STROKES. BHiu Speaker Blaine Luk taken the trouble to deny, through the press, that he ever acquired ouy property improper ly. It is bad enough to “appropriate" but it is a deal worse to lie about it Mi* The LaFayette, Indiana, Journal of the Sth says: “ The city will, to-day, be honored with the pretence of Horace Greeley,” Humph; wlrnt would the Jour nal say if Fred. Douglas were to go there? The Cincinnati Times ami Chron icle, very Radical, says: “A. H. 8., stag gered by the success of the Courier-Jour nal in his own domain, has gone to writ ing paragraphs." The Courier-Journal hss one subserilier in Georgia, and he is a “Kentucky Bourbon” who weeps every evening when he reads the paper. talr The Courier-Journal says : “ The Shakspearean proverb that 1 brevity is the soul of wit’ finds in nothing a more forcible illustration than in one of Mr. Stephens’ four-column paragraphs.” But in the Courier-JoumaT t four and a half column paragraph which appeared a few days ago, there was not even a spark of wit to donote its brevity. tef The Courier-Journal says, our opinion the prescription of Mr. Ste phens is the wont treatment that Geor gia oould be aubjectod to.” Neverthe less, under precisely the same treatment the State gave a majority of nearly fifty thousand against Grant in 18G8. This, perhaps, is what the C.-J. calls bad tr&t- ment. Well, it is bad for the C.-J. and other Radicals. AaSfThe Courier-Journal is moved by its unutterablo vanity, to print this item: The New York Sun speaks of the Cou rier-Journal as “that brilliant and power ful paper." The reputation for lying enjoyed by the New York Sun surpasses that of any other paper in the countiy. However, as the recent oouree of the Courier-Jour nal is winning it praise at the hands of all its radical cofemporarics, it is not strange that the New York Sun should chime in. _ GEORGIA SE1V8. HLDri&c it Zo. IN THE The frees and Messenger of the Sth eliminates the following: A negro man was thrown from a horse and killed, on Sunday last, in the upper portion of this county. Mrs. Duke Seymour, of this county, was thrown from a buggy and killed, while on her way homo from Madison, last Snturday. The Sheriff of Wilkinson county and his mistress, a negro woman, were taken from their residence and drowned by un known purties, on Friday night last, bo WO loom. Mr. J. R. Bagley, a J. P. of this county, shot and killed a negro man near Dennis Station, yesterday. The negro was under arrest, and trying to escape was shot and instantly killed. MACON. Macon is smacking her chops over oysters “on the half shell.” The Telegraph of the Cth has the fol lowing: The religious revival at the First Street Methodist Church is still going on. It is under the direction of that most re markable man, Rev. Dr. W. W. Hicks; and just hero we would aay that no min ister has been in Macon for the last twenty years who has attracted such uni versal admiration. BARNSVILLE. Tho following items were Ouselle-i on the 7th. The Now Methodist Church is going up rapidly. Extensive arrnngemcuts are being ef fected to make Barncsvillo one of the best interior cotton markets in the State. The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Allen, of Monroe county, was choked to death on Saturday last, with a small portion of pig liver. The nurse having given it food, during the parents’ absence at church. United States Marshal Maj. W. H. Smythe, sold the Columbus Steam Cot ton Mill ycstenlay at publio outcry, to Mr. John King, of Columbus for $6,150. The Marshal also sold 1,740 acres of land in Thomas countv, to Messrs. Hartbridge A Chisolm, for 82,700. Mr. James Tinley, of Bibb coaaty, nominated by the Radicals at their Con vention in Forsyth, on Monday last, to fill the scat in the Senate muds vacant by tho resignation of T. J. Speer. We have not hoard whether Mr. Tinley will accept the nomination or not, but pre sume that he will, or the public would have heard from him qp Jhe subject. SAVANNAH. The News of the 6th lias the appended items: His Honor, Mayor Screven, has ap pointed Col. Edward C. Anderson, Henry Brigham, Esq., and Major W. S. Basiu- ger, Delegates to the Southern Commer cial Convention, wliich holds its session 1 in Baltimore on the 25th iust. We arc also informed that Muj. John O. Ferrill and J. R. Sauaay, Esq., have been ap pointed alternates. Tbo number of deaths in Savannah for the week ending the 4th was 20, of which number 12 were colored. OWINNRTT COUNTY. Tho Alim ot tho 6lh furnishes these items: During the equinoctial gale last week, the born of Mr. Alfred Dyer, who resides in the southwestern part of this county, was struck by lightning and one mule killed. ... From a private letter received from CoL W. K. deGraffonreid, President of tho Macon and Knoxville Railroad, we learn that negotiations arc still pending for the building of this road, with a good prospect of success. The officers of the road are luboriug zealously to place the rood on a sure footing, eud do not iutend to move a shovel full of dirt until they are prepared to complete it It is claimed that only one passenger in a lailroad train has evcrliecu killed in Maine, lie lost his life by the fall of the bridge' near Bangor, a couple of weeks ago.
