The barometer will probably continue
rising and high winds on the Atlantia
ondmlalf coast and lower lakes, with
pleasant weather, on Saturday; hot will
fall rapidly north and weet of the Ohio
valley, with increasing southeasterly
winds on the upper lakes. A storm of
considerable size is probably approach
ing from Montana and Dakotah.

Nashville, September 29.—In the
first race—three-mile dash, lor $(i00—
Foster walked over. The Beoond raca—

first, McIntyre’s b. g. by Morton, soo-
ood, Metalla third, Sue Walton fourth,
Aneroid fifth and Maaeppa sixth. Time

and 1:48. The favorites won in oach
race. The weather is fine and there has
been a fine attendance at tho races all
the week. Tho meeting closes to-morrow
with fourraoee.
Three negroes were token from the jail
in Winchester,Tennessee, and hanged for
burning a church.
Montoomeby, Sept 29.—The grandest:
demonstration to-day in honor of General
Clanton ever known in Alabama. His
body in state at the capitol was visited
by over 10,000. TkeM. E. Churcb where
the fnneral was preached, was filled, and
the square around was packed. The pro
cession to the cemetery was over two
miles long. It is estimated that tho crape
on stores, public bnildings and private
residences would make a lino ten milos
long. Tho grief is groat and men and
women freely shed tears. Tho colored
population vied iu their demonstrations
of respect to the greet Democratic leader
of Alabama. Largo contributions have
already been made to raise funds to in
vest for hie family. Every business bouse
was closed.
Selma, Sept 29.—The doatk of Gen.
Clanton created general and profound
grief in this community. To-day the
Church bells were tolled and other dem
onstrations of respeot woro made.
At York, yesterday, seventy milos west
of Selma, yesterday, a drunken man, with
out provocation, killed his wife and fath
er-in-law and then fled.

nor Davis.
