G. H. Waring, of Kingston, one of the
most prominent stock raisers in Georgia,
was managed to the entire satisfaction
of all persona. His "Georgia Filly,”
which ho has been driving for seventeen
years, took three premiums. He was as
sisted by W. A. Spenoe of this city.

own manufacture. They deserved them,
as their end of the show was sustained
most elegantly. Finney sold seven ear-

Alderman Fowler moved that Mr. Dice
be instructed to sand sidewalks on Ma
rietta street, A lenghty discussion en
sued about propriety of dismissing some
of the street laborers, and reducing the
pay roll from 8500 to 8450. The origi
nal motion waa lost sight of in a tumult
of motions, counsel, propositions, and
confusion, and the whole matter knock
ed the Mayor off hjawookack.
Moved to fill vacancy of city physician
in Seoond Ward. Dr. J. B. Baird,
elected.
Finance report was then read. Com
mittee recommended payment of bills to
tlio amount of $3,022 50. Deport
adopted.
Maj. Hillycr stated that the Georgia
Doilroad had been sued by L. P. Grant,
for the recovery of e lot of land, on
Fair street, near Bound House, and
re commanded to the Council to purchase
it for city purposes. Deferred.

dash. Wootten A Taylor won. Time

Tallulah No. 3, retained her position
and proceeded to raise steam to play for
the medal; bat, unfortunately, bnrsted
her (glaaa) steam gagoe, when it showed
bnt 190 lbs., which caused them to make
rather a hurried and limited play of 217
feet 10 inches, after whieh they were com
polled to withdraw.
Atlanta No. 1, (2d elass Amoakeag) then
took her position, and after some time
sucoeedod in reacMng the distance of 251
feet 2 inches. As the judges had made
no provision for aooidents the medal waa
awarded to No. L
Next in order came Atlanta’s old favor
ite, “the Fire Queen." After being pro
perly manned and ready, away went the
water, -and 174 feet 7 inches waa given
her. But one trial being allowed, she
withdrew, and next came her competitor
from West Point
West Point No. 1, waa forced to
retire with 156 feet 4 inches, leaving the
silver medal in the hands of 11 E. Lee,
No. 4, of Atlanta.
We understand the West Point boys
were not satisfied with the result, and
challenged the R. E. Lee to meet them
to-day and go-it again, (whioh challenge
was accepted.
Everything passed off pleasantly, and
all the boys went home perfectly willing
to go their bottom dollar on their “mer-
ohine.”
Tke Ka-Klax Commit***.
A sub-committee of the Joint Con-
gressionalKn-Klux Committee, reached
this city early yesterday morning. It
consists of Horace Maynard, of Tennes
see, Chairman; G. W. Sohofield. at
Pennsylvania; W. E. Lansing, of New
York; D. W. Voorhees, of Indiana; and
Thos. F. Bayard, of Delaware—the last
two are Democrats, and the others Radi-
,18.
This oommittee met yesterday, soon
after arrival, and examined several wit
nesses, some of whom were negroes.
District Attorney John D. Pope was also
examined, fbe Radical element of the
committee, have not, thus far, found
much comfort, and wa presume, will not

which can’t be found in this community.

The Fair proper closed yesterday. It
lias been a grand sucoeas, and those who
have managed it deserve tha thanks of

Echols, and O. H. Jones. They are the
principal ofioers, and have labored hero

Foster Blodgett from punishment by the
