Thb people of Atlanta bare shown
their opposition to corruption, and
demonstrated that they cannot be bought,
bribed, or cajoled, to vote for or favor
men or measures, which have any im
mortal or corrupt taint, nr suspicion.
They always rote right.
The present Constitution was framed
by a Radical bayonet convention, in this
city. It required the capital to be
brought here; and the party which
fearned it, presented Bullock as a can
didate. Notwithstanding onr people
were nnanimonsly in favor of the re
moval, Atlanta ia the only city in Geor-
gia which voted against Bullock. It i*
the only ono which ha* kept the stun
dard of pure Democracy afloat in it*
Government, and kept the clutches o(
the Radicals out of it* Treasury. Bul
lock's Government, and Blodgett and the
robber band, had their headquarter*
here. Tbe public money hu* been
squandered for corrupt objects, bnt the
raoi-LE of 4tlautu hare kept Uicir es
cutcheon bright, and their honor untar-
Dished. A few iniliriiluale have joined
the band, and participated in the rpoila
of dishonesty and fraud; but no such
charge eon he brought against ona man
in a hundred of onapcople. They acorn
with loathing and contempt, all such ill
gotten gaius and those who participate
therein.
This characteristic was strikingly illus
trated in the Democratic meeting Mon
day night. It la alleged and believed
abroad—and the belief exists in this city
to some extent—that there i* a “ring'
organized, whose object is to control tbe
legislation of the State for solflsh pnrpo
sea. If auoh a ring really does exist, it is
exceedingly small and w ithout influence.
Whelhor the cliarge or the belief bo onr
reel or not, the people of Atluuta have,
at all times, shown that they have no
sympathy with anything having about it
the slightest suspicion of impropriety.

before the Court yesterday consumed the
whole dsy. It was that of Bonnell,
County Jailor, vs. J. D. Garrison, Police
man, charged with assault with attempt
to murder.
Some of our readers will recollect that
in May last a difficulty occurred between
Mr. Oarrison and Mr. Bonnell at the
jail, in which several shots were ex
changed. Both Garrison and Bonnell
were wounded, tbe latter rather severely.
Tiro altercation originated, if We remem-
her aright, in some jesting and raillery,
which soon assumed such a serious na
ture as to excite violent sugar and a per
sonal difficulty. The case excited a good
deal of interest, personal and curious.

in a few moments, and the prisoner was
discharged. BoL Geo. Howell and W.
