We hare a private letter from Aostin, dated the 1st December, from which we make the following extraot: "Oar legislature) adjourns tomorrow. The Executive has vetoed tho bill fa bring on an election far tdenbtts of tho Legislature, and, as a oonseqaenoe, there will be no meetiug of that body until some time in 1873. Tbe Oovrenor is afraid to have an eleotion, as be knows that a new Legiaiatnve will impeach and probably sonnet him. ” This is in keeping with the oondnot of the Badicals in ell the Southern Stales. They eling to office and diaregnrd law and the rights of tbe people. The Organ of the "New Rebellion,” in ■poeMhffi of the Democratic Party, mya it is a party, "which relies more upon vio lence end intimidation at the polls, than npoq sms nil at tha hustings or fair elec tions for 1000811.” That is decidedly cool for a journal which has lavoksd a eoDWen bats State and Padsral authority; in other words, tha interference of Grant'e bayo net* to sustain Benjamin Conley in set ting at de&anoe the Constitution and laws of the State, a* well ea the wishes of tbe people. It is refreshing, ooming as it does, from the reoognixed organ of the lawlem, bayonet party, of which Bui. look and Blodgett and Harris were the reoognixed chiefs, and through whose unlawful acta tbo people have been robbed of millions. It was tbe party of whioh these cseaturea were the chiefs, and of which the Srn is the recognised organ that has manacled the South, and rifled her pookets; that has held sham bayonet elections and oounted votes to Us liking a hi Halbert—the sacaess of whioh has been eeenred from first to laat by foroe, trend, intimidation, violenee, and bayonets, at the polls and elsewhere. This is a beautiful charge for lb* or gan of tha party that exists only by reas on of ontregs, to make against a party whioh hae never been otherwise than law abiding; which hat never advocated, or pvsetioed, or sanctioned any violenee or tread, and has always depended for its Strength, spaa Ha adherence to prii* eiples and its protection of popular liber ty and individual right*. "Has be lied no trial, nor hearing of it kind?” “No, aah. Lsyin’ in jail, boas, and no chance giv him o' clarin’ hiaaelf.” “ That is too bad. Is he married ?” "My young maasa married ? I bade the earnest old negro good-bye,* and passed on to the gloomy jail, where Kn-klux prisoners were "huddled to other like hogs in a pen, so'driv' about ike cattle.” I found tbe prisoners guarded by soldiers as though they were captive* of war. T) ore was tho dark, dreary-looking building, with its grated windows and forbidding aspect. There ~ beheld the sad faces of many an unfor- mste victim of Radical persecution wring wistfully through tho iron onging to be in the sweet sunshine with out, and longing for their homes where they had left their loved ones in tears, in loneliness, in despair. There stood the i rim aantinal, wi b nest uniform and king bayonet, guarding the entrenoe to the jail. There was tbe camp of Grant’s soldiers, the white tenti and shady booths dotting the green slope of . . the hill that swelled up in graceful out sort* a nomination—and the nonriua- lino to the rear of the prison-house.
