Iliil- road, in favor of the compauy. Each of these notes was dated 17th December, 1870, due on the 20th April, 1871, for 819,041.52 — amounting to 857,124.56. They were all made payable at the office of lieury Clews A Co., in New York.— When they were due, they were pre sented, and Clews refused to puy them. TVy are sill go paid. They are bearing interest sinoe the 20th of April, which, at 7 per cent., np to the 1st of Junuary— 8 months and 12 days—givoa 82,799.08— making the total debt, os first stated, 809,023.64. These notes were given for four loco motives, which are now on the rood, and had been for some time before the notes were given, viz: The “Gen. Terry,” Benjamin Conley,” “Jesse,” and "John H. Flynn.” It is, no doubt, a correct claim, and ought long since to have been paid, though it has not been investigated, that we are aware of. It is alleged that Bullock di rected Clows not to pay these notes at maturity, and we suppose this allega tion is true. Why should this order have given by Bullock ? We can imav- int only one reason: that the debt was net ores ted for fraudulent purposes; that it was not a thieving job; that the llog- ers Locomotive Work* had actually tarn ished the engines tolbe road to the value of their claim, and consequently vere not in a corrupt ring, and not willing to divido with Bullock, Blodgett, Clews, and the others of the Ring. This we suggest as likely. Ku-Klux,—Every species of violence or disorder in these days is called a Kn it In i outrage. If the hanging of the gamblers by the populace in Natchez, Vicksburg and San Fruncisco had taken place at uny time in the last four years, it would have been denounced by tho Rad icals as a great Kn-klnx affair. Law lessness of all kinds is to he depre cated. One kind is not more so than an other. There never was a jwople with virtuous instincts who would not, at aomc provocation, take the law into their own hands and execute vengeanoe npou law breakers who had defied aud escaped the punishment of law. We have no -word of justification for any one guilty of lawlessness, whether it be thoso who are ealled Ku-Klux, or those who by lawlessness and outrage provoko said Kn-Klux to unlawful acts, lawlessness in somo shape hat always existed, and always will, no matter vvlmt may bo the state of society or politics; and it ia wrong to nacribo such thing* to the alleged disloyalty of those who per petrate them, while protecting, excusing and jnatliying the outrages of thoso who provoke them. Mr. J. 8. Nall.—We stated yesterday that Joaeph H. Kail, the late business manager of Dr. Bard’s True Georgian— so-called—deservod the pay lie was claim ing, and in the effort to obtain which he baa forced tho Doctor into bankruptcy— because he had served tho Doctor faith fully. A friend of Mr. Nall thinks our remarks might be misunderstood by some. We, therefore, take ploasare iu saying that wo meant only to say that Mr. Nall was a faithful busiuess man, who dis charged his duty only in a legitimate business way—having nothing to do with Dr. Bard's politics. Si’EniENsoN’e New Book.—Our eminent Geologist and Scientist has written a very able book -soon to be published—one of tho most remarkable and wonderfully interesting of the age. It treats of The Soul, or The Relation of Matter to Mind, being an Exposition of the first six chapters of Genesis. We have examined the manuscript of the work* and consider it one of the most important works on this subject ever pre pared. He treats of tho origin of the different races of man, and their moral, mental and physical peculiarities, in a thoroughly scientific manner. Ho treats of the laws of human life, an 3 shows plainly that it is within the power of pa rents to fix upon their offspring a lasting impress for good or evil—the lack of which knowledge has caused countless thousands of souls to perish. He show s also that the characteristics of children, iu many respects, aud eveu their sex, are within the control of parents. Those desiring tho work can obtain it as soon as it is published. Tlie work will contaiu about one hun dred and thirty pages. Persons wishing to procure it, can do so by sending fifty cents to The Sun office for a copy bound iu paper, or one dollar for cloth lrindiug. Oelrtch’s restaurant as a testimo nial to their employers. It was surpris ing to us to learn that this enterprising firm hod nearly one hundred men iu their employment. The following are tho names of those uniting iu giving the supper: Jos A Johnson, J C Conley, T N Fare- cloth, W R Millwood, George F Buch anan, C R Wellborn, E W Dyer, W II Frizzell, J W Head, H Myers, G Bishop, F K Larrabee, D W M C Jones, R A Mouteith, J P Kelly, 8 U Ogletreo, \Y U Jernigan, J W Cross,,R L Crotty, James Gilliam, W M Thomas, R E Thompsou, Win Torrence, J F Galloway, J D Smith, M Coin, W Wade, A Harris, P H Simms, A McGilvary, J M Douglas, S T Johns, A Baker, J C llood, G A Gilmore, Rob’t Ohanoey, F O White, J A Garrett, D F Holloway, George Prosnell, J M Haire- tou, C W Stevens. D Hollingsworth, M Cusick. A general How of good feeling pre vailed, and all enjoyed the occasion. Toasts and speeches, wit and humor, marked the occasion. Miami. Johnson, .Jernigan, Conley, Robinson, Frizzell, Longley, aud others, made addresses, aud all passed off with a happy effect. This is the ffrat oceaaiou of the kind, ao far as we are aware, iu this city. We hope it is bat the beginning of innocent enjoyment* which will spread its iaffu- uce to every fibre of society. Foster Blodgett is eternally disgraced —even in the estimation of hi* accompli ces in crime. The Grand J ary - foanfl a true bill agAinst him last summer. He gave bond for his appearance at court. He went away, pretending to be looking after a seat in tho Senate, but, nt ^pfbt, to keep oat of the clatches of the la 1 His bond was declared forfeited at the late session of the Superior Conit in this city, aud a bench warrant for his arrest is now in the hands of the Sheriff Besides this, tho Grand Jury last week found another true bill against him. He lias, no doubt, gone to join Bullock; aud we consider it altogether probable that neither of them will ever voluntarily again return to Georgia. They both went away from here with pretenaibns of being gone on legitimate buainess, both carefully giving oat through the press here that they would return soon. Our readers will recollect that we then expressed the opinion that neither would return while it could be avoided. Ain’t I Brave?—Scott, the carpet bag Gubernatorial plunderer of South Carolina, who lias played the same game that Bollock has in Georgia, in the mat ter of State bonds and public robberies generally, has performed a cute strategy npou the advocates of impeachment. He has shown himself to be almost os sharp as Foster Blodgett, aud assumed the strategy of a soldier, which Bullock never attempted. But Scott would be a coward if he had tho Georgia Legislature to deal with him; and if he ever has an honest set of men te fuce he, too, will ti|pk his tail and run like a sheep-stealing cur, and will join Bullock, who has sought safety in flight. D. N. Madden, the gentleman who had that confidence game played upon him by the two brothers, Gist, alias Furnes- worth, and who was required by the May or to remuin here and testify against the rascals, had a check for $25 passed up in his favor by the Council last night, to reimburse him for actual expenses in re maining here. This was right—and the pay small enough. To the Members of the Legislator*-.
