Decisions of the Bitremk Court.—
We have before ns Part 2, Vol. 41, of
Georgia Reports, by Col. N. J. Ham-
moud, Reporter. It is a book ot 3GC
pugfet, and contains a large number of
the most important decisions ever given
in Georgia. It covers parts of the June
Obiustmas Trebs.—Old Ban to Clause,
for the bmt week, hue delegated a special
ageucj to serve the people of Atlanta.
His missionaries have hovered about
church sanctuaries, nestled in green
trees and figured conspicuously os Good
Templars’, as well os Church disciples-
the C ENTRAL PllEHHYTEHlAN,
on Monday evening, with their little
cherub host, dethroned Damo J * -ioffi, in
the City Hall, and inaugurated old Santa
Cluus, muster of revelries. The Christ-
inns troo was lofty and beautiful—reach
ing froui the ceiling to the floor, and
bearing many a precioas gift for more
precious children.
THE SECOND DAITIST CHURCH,
on Wednesday evening, dispensed thou
sands of presents from a handsome
Christmas Tree, sparkling with many a
tempting notion. Messrs. T.. P. West
moreland and Marshall J. Clarke enter
tained the assembled children, ladies and
citizens, with elegant "addresses; and the
children, in tarn, sang Christmas warbles
with touching effect.
THE COLD WATRK TEMPLARS,
with a whole crusade'of enthusiastic
children, zealous in a glorious cause,
marched up into James* Hall, on Wed
nesday evening, to share tho fruits of a
Christmas Tree, wbfcli, as if by magic,
shed showers of presents upon smiling
children. The Rev. Dr. Warren deliv
ered an appropriate address, which re
ceived the hearty plaudits of tho pa
triotic little host of heaven-bound veto-
fans.
THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH,
also, on Wednesday evening, had its
Christmas tree laden with delicate
dainties, presents and notions, and illu
minated most gorgeously.
The services commeneed^with a tong
by the school, assisted by tho choir, with
Prof. Harmsen os leader, and prayer by
Rev. Dr. Wills.
Several aongs by the school ard choir,
and a chaste and eloquent address by
Rev. Dr. Wills, preceded tbe distribu
tion of presents. Mr. James Atkins
presented the various articles, greatly to
tho delight of tho younger members of
the school.
The exercises were concluded by an
authcoi by the choir and benediction by
Rev. F. P. Perdue.
Taken all together, the presentation
and exercises passed off well, and seemed
to Interest the largo audiences in atten
dance on all tbe Christmas trees.
ST. STEPHENS* EPISCOPAL CHURCH,
last evening, was crowded with specta
tors and children, eager for tho gifts that
studded with profusion the duplex
Christmas Tree erected iu the handsome
ly decorated church.
AfUr a Voluntary by the choir, aud
prayer, tho Bchool sang “ Hark ! a Burst
of Heavenly Music.” Tho tree was then
illuminated. The children surrounded
the tree and sang a Welcome, after which
oamethediatribution of gifts.
A •well-timed address from the pasfor,
Rev. G. Macauley, woe listened to with
much interest; after which tho happy
ohilffren sang their farewell to the Christ
mas Tree, and retired to dream of Santa
Claus.
Horse Stolen.—Last ovouinp, about
7 o’clock, a very largo deep, bay horse,
about twelvo years' old, having a very
small white spot in his forehead, was
stolen from the residence of W. C.
Parker, corner Forsyth and Garnett
streets. Access to tho horse was gained
by breaking the lock to the stable. He
was the property of Rev. J. M. Parker,
a son of Mr. Parker above named—a
traveling Methodist prencher, whose
work for the coming year is iu Wilkes
oounty. He iutended to leave for his
circuit in a day or two. This loss is a
calamity to him. It is to bo hoped that
the people everywhere will keep a sharp
look out, And that tho thief will be ar
rested and tlie horso recovered.
Cait. C ha lints Wallace.—The War
Ten ton Clipper, of the 21st inst., publishes
Gen. Wright’s cord, which appeared in
The Bun of the 14th inst., accompanied
with our introductory comments, in rela
tion to the unfortunate death of Copt.
Wallace, who was the editor cf that pa
per at tho time of the tragic occurrence,
to which the editor added the following
remarks, from which it will be seen that
he fully exonerates Gen. Wright from all
intentional wiong, while joining iu tbe
vindication of Capt Wallace:
We are gl.nl to see that the great in
justice done tho talented and brave Wal
lace, by Ueu. Wright’s testimony before Stores !—Do not send off orders for
the Ku-Kjux Committee, thus corrected
by Gen. Wright.
A published statement of Gen. Wright’s
testimony was furnished ns some weeks
since, and it was such a perversion of
fuels— ao far as it related to the murder
of Oapt. Charles Wallace and the canses
leading thereto—that we were forced to
believe that Gen. Wright had committed
tbe unfortunate error unintentionally,
and as the affuir had passed from the
affair had passed from the newspapers
into u correspondence between Col. A.
U, Wullace, of Atlanta, and (leu. Wright,
we reluctantly remained silent, awaiting
the termination of tbe correspondence,
which, we are pleased to state, has re
sulted in the above amende honorable.
A braver, more chivalrous, high-toned
champion of tho South than Capt. Chos.
Wallace never breathed tbe breath of
life, and any reflections upon his fair
rihnie, coming from any source, is an in
sult to those for whose peace and welfare
ho Hacriflced his life, and will be met
with rebuke so long as honor and bravery
lias a hold upon the hearts of our people.
Fire.— Last night about 10 o’clock a
kerosene lamp exploded on the counter
of Bolomon'r jewelry store, on Whitehall
street, setting fire to tho counter. The
fire companies were quickly on th j spot,
hut the fire was prevented from si read
ing by the counter being speedily drawn
out into the street. A quantity of watch
es, spectacles, rings, pistols, &c., were
broken and otherwise damaged, and the
counter was consumed, and any mount
of these things grabbed and earned off.
The Central Hotel—At Columbus, is
a good place for travelers to stop. The
excellent landlady Mrs. Gray, keeps
things as tidy us a parlor, has attentive
servants and keeps a bountifully supplied
table. There is an air of comfort about
the place that makes one who has st pped
there long to stop there again.
U. S. Court.—The Equity case of
Rogers vs. Rogers, for settlement and
distribution of estate, was up yesterday.
After argument tbe case was dismissed as
far as it concerned four complainants.
Rev. E. P. Birch has been elected
President of the Methodist Female Col
lege at LaGrange, to fill the place of Mr.
Calloway, resigned, and has accepted the
same.
SurEiuoR Couut.—Judge Hopkins is
rapidly closing the business of this term.
Nothing of importance wus transacted
yesterday, except binding over Foster
Blodgett, tho particulars of which is
given elsewhere.
The Katie Putnam Troupe.—The
Nashville Banner says Miss Katie is “one
of the most bewitehing artistes of the
day, aud iu her peculiar role has but few
superiors on tho stage. She is not only
faultless in acting, but is an accompl i
vocalist, and her songs were most
tlmsinstieally received.” This company
will be hero New Year’s evening. See
the announcement.
