Whereas a large amount of land in tho State
of Virginia, and in other.States that Imvebeen
in insurrection, has been abandoned bytiisloyil
owuers and is now being cultivated by Freed*
men ; nnd whereas the owners of such lands art
attempting to obtain possession oi tlictu, and
thus deprive tlio Freedmen ot the fruit* of their
iudindry: It is ordered Hint all abandoned
funds iu said States now under cultivation by
the Freedmen bo retained in their posscHiun
until tho crops now growing shall bo secured lor
their benefit, unless full and iust coinpensstioa
be mado lor their labor and its product*, and Dr
expenditures.

to relieve disloyal persons fiom tiio consequen
