case was known. Ho was too low for con

have Mionlated would not drink with him.
All alone in hi* of lion and chatobor, ho
still continued to drink, and even his very
life seemed tho oUVpring of tho jug.
In oarly spring Moses Kulton had a call
to K o to Ohio. Before he set out he visited

‘But why stay hero?’ urged the brother.

At that moment Daniel entered tho
apartment, ilo looked like a wanderer
from the tomb. He had hi* hat in Iuh

could not apeak plainly.
The visitor looked at him for a lew

post. 1 will yet make you take back your
words.*
'Never, Daniel Bryan! novor.
'You shall. I swear it.'
With these words Daniel Bryan burled
the jug into tho liroplnce, and whilo yet a
thousand fragments were Hying over tho
floor, ho strode from the house.
Mary sank fainting on the floor, Moses
t)oro her to a bed, and buying cnllod in a
neighbor, ho hurried away, for the stago
was wailing.
For a month Daniel hovered ovor Alio

‘One gill of brandy will save you,* said
the doctor, who saw that tho abrupt remo

for long years hud almost .subsisted on
nothing else, was almost certain to prove
fatal. ‘You can surely take a gill, and not
take any more.'
