—The Alabama Stale Journal came out
yesterday in a new dress, that improves
its appearance wonderfully. Wo hope its
improvement is the result of journalistic
prosperity.
—We rejoice to learn that tho health
of Geuorul llardeo is improving. For
weeks bis condition has been critical, and
hie friend-- all over tho country havelooked
with solicitude, and almost without hopo,
for news of his convalesence. He is not
yet, wo fear, entbuly out of present dan
ger, but his complete rooovory is looked
lor with a considerable degree of confi
dence. —Selma A ryus.
—Wo aro reliably informed that the
Board of Health did not havo a quorum at
their mooting yesterday, at 12 o’clock, and
that they had no reports to make or re
ceive on “yellow fever, except that the
child of Mr. Mulcahry was dead. We
have labored earnestly to ascertain if
there are any new casoa of yoliow fever iu
the city, but can obtain no information
which we consider reliable as to any other
cases than those reported in tho Journal
yesterday. We shall be obliged to per
sons who can give us positive informa
tion on tho subject. We are seriously of
the opinion that there will not bo another
case developed in our city.—Stale Jour
nal.
—As we write, a refreshing, cooling
breeze fans our streets, and the atmos-
pbore has coased to bo heavy and oppres
sive. During tbo twenty-four hours cud-
iug yesterday at noon, we lmve to record
only one death by yellow fever, ouo from
consumption, and four infants under one
year. Nothing has occurred calculated to
create uneasiness, and should tbo present
woather continue, all possible fears will
disappear.
Wo have to state by request «»f the at
tending physician of tho Into Sister Fran-
Xavier, that he never pronounced her
diseuse yellow fever, but on tho contrary
always considered it a congestive fever,
an opinion in which he was sustained by
tho physiciau to whom the mortal remains
wero exhibited.
This D on important correction, as it
reduces by one tho already very small
number of* victims.— Mobile Register.

The order with the Patrous in this
country is not of a political character.
Were it so. we would raise our voice
against it; for, just so soon as it begins to
dabble in politics, just so soon will it bo-
cijtne the instrument in the hands of
demagogues for tho advancement of their
political aims. The great end anil object
of the institution with us, is to promote
the social, intoHor'inal aud moral relations
of our planting friends, when that is done,
and tho fanner becomes, intelligent in his
planting operations and social in his rela
tions with his fellow farmer, then wo
may and do oxpect to see agricultural in-
forests in tho South prosper. — Opelika
