The Prince of Wale* present a the ap pearance of a stout and amiable middle- aged gentleman, large in the neck and bald-headed. He was in plain citizen’s dress, and wore a gorgeous buttonhole bouquet. He has been accused of many excesses, but his face is pleasant and free from the evidence of vicioua indulgences. He is a very intelligent and agreeable looking gentleman, and when one consid ers the facilities that he hA8 had for be ing led into temptation it must be con fessed, I think, that he has taken good care of himself. His appearance confirms his reputation here as that of a kindly and clover good fellow. The Princess of Wales is the winner of hearts for the royal family. Her pensive boau- ty has faded lut lrtle, and her happy taste in dress and her airy grace excite genoral admiration. I should have noted carefully how this fair Princess was dressed, but her sister-in-law*, the Crown Princess of England and Germany oame in view, with the tall, bronzed sol dier, with close-clipped hair and tawny beard, the Crown Prince, her husband. The contrast between the distinguished couples was strongly marked. The Paince and Princess of Wales seemed a shade festive. They were smiling and f ;racions, with perhaps, one may say, a ittle of the glitter of the opera or fairy tale. The other couple were serious and plain, clothing dark, features grave— meaning business.
