tion in stopping arrests made by Merrill
on his own affidavits, and will decide upon
two-thirds of the crop being reported al-

I Christmas for bottom lauds.
The unprecedented drouth of the past
season has evidently injured the crop to
, such an extent that the finest picking sea
son will not repair the damages.
According to our correspondence the
yield is estimated at from twenty-five to
sixty-six per cent., the decrease average
being forty-one per cent., as compared
with last season, although it is expected
that the late planting in the river bottoms
will bo better than at present represented
