[ So young! and yet Griefs hand has set His mark upon thy brow so deep. And thinned life’s light, Changed day to night, And made thine eyes so prone to weep. Thy little ban I In this sad land Had scarcely tried to call life's rose, When It was torn By sorrow’s thorn, And spring time turned to winter’s snow. But, child of grief, There is relief; God Is tbs God of orphans lone— Ho hears their prayer; They are his care; Ho stoops to listen when they moan. And, could Ho weep, Ills tears so deep. Like golden waves should wash thy way. But, Oh! Instead, His smiles aro shed Upon their hoarts each night and day. No augel kaow From ulouds of woe. Why blessings to the orphans corns, And Ho alone, Who hours their moan, Knows how to lead them to Bis home. FRAYKR, God of the fotherloss. guide her j Let thy angels walk beside her Adown the thorn-strewod years Ond of the fatherloss, love her Whon griol gathers dark above her, And wipe away her tears. • God of the fatherless, keep hor f Watch the lonely little reaper From Thv throne of love on high. God of the fatherless, bear her Where tho reaper is the wearer Of Thy orown beyond the eky. DOM ISTIcTMATT EBB. —A Rluo wliioh will resiat the notion of water in made by boiling 1 pound of glue in 2 (purin of skimmed milk. —If stove polish is mixed with very strong soap suds the lnster appears imme diately, and the dust does not fly around as it usually does. To Clean White Paikt—Whiting is unequalled for cleaning white paint. Take a small quautity on a damp flannel, mb lightly over the surface, and the ef* feet will be found surprising. —Tomato Cubtard.—This is made by ntrainiug finely stewed tomatoes through n coarse seive, and adding two pints of milk and one pint of tomatoes to four eggs And one tesspoonful of sugar. Bake in small cups quickly. It it a wholesome and nutritious diet for invalids or feeble persons. Habd Ginger Cakes.—Two quarts of Hoar, ouo pound and a quarter of sugar, one pound and a uuarter of butter and lard mixed, two tablespoonfula of ginger. Aiuko up with molasses into a tolerable .stiff dough, and roll out quite thin. Cut with round or cake cutter* of fanoy shape. —Many years ago I learned how to get n gold ring from tho finger that had swollen too much to admit of its removal in tho ordinary way. Wipe the finger perfectly dry, and pour quicksilver over the ring; a chemical onion instantly forms, and taking the ring between the thumb and fore finger, by a auddefi pres sure it will snap to pieces. Waterproofing Boots. Paraffin© is recommended for this purpose in an English journal. The writer adds: Melt thoroughly the paraffluo, and having well warmed the boot, apply the ^amfflne with a brush or piece of flannel before a fire, to allow of tho leuther absorbing tho liquid. I have tried the above, and it uuswers admirably, resisting snow-water during a week’s shooting. Too Much Camphor.—The Scientific American cautious people against the too frequent m.o of camphor as a medicine. It says the nature of camphor is that of a nervous stimulant, similar to opium or alcohol, and when taken in large doses, causes irritation of the nervous system, and produces convulsions, often fatal m their effects. To Make IIaiu Curl.—The method em ployed by professional workers iu hair is follows: Wet the hair to be curled, wrap it smoothly around a cylindrical stick or tube of proper size, tie it in place, and then put it in water and boil it two ir three hours, remove it from the boiler, wrap it carefully in newspapers and bake it iu a moderato oven for an boor. Thus treated, it will stay in curl permanently. About Makino Soup.—A fair oorres- pondeut of tho Springfield Republican nays that she never buys meat for eonp, unless for guasts, tho bones'and scraps from the roasts and broils being sufficient. These she puts iu the soup kettle, with three large or six small onions, sliced, half a teacup of water, two heaping spoonsful of salt, and a small quarter tea* spoon of pepper, lots all these simmer ten minutes or over, stirs them often but does uot let* them scorch, and, when just ready to dry up, pours on live pints of cold water, adds two good sized carrots and a turnip out in slioos, and lets all boil to gether moderately for an hoar or two. If you have a large proportion of meat on your boues, she adds, an hour will make it.) Strain it through a sieve, and skim off the fat, if any, and it is fit for the evory day table. While boiling the kettle must be covered tight, to keep it from boiling away. I like to make my soup after -breakfast and set it away, as then, by dinner time, the fat whioh may be on it will have hardened, and ia easily skimmed off. Any grease float ing on a soup is unpardonable. Bend it to the (able boiling hot, and if yon add a little boiled macaroni, rice or barley, or a few green peas, or slivers of string beans, or even of despised carrot, it wul improve it. When you have tomatoes, celery tops, parsnips, a bay leaf, a bit of thyme, green pea bulls—anything—put it in to enrich and complicate the flavor. As the wife of a distinguished Cambridge poet, who is very particular about bis din- uer, said to me. *'Everything goea to uske a soup—like cologne.” Most housekeep ers iu ike awful preparations in getting ups soup—« whole shin of veal, boiled all day, etc. But after a few experi ments, the housekeeper will And that the above recipe is cheaper, quicker and quite os good. An unhung librarian says: "A large maj irity of tho geutleuien whodraw books from the library take those of a higher or der, unless tbiy are selecting reading matter for llioir wives.’* He also says: ‘“A rather large cluss of young ladies and Joudr boys do all the novel reading.” We nro ashamed of the boys. And also: “Niue ladies out of ten read works of fiction.” This is awfal. —At Salisbury Point, Massachusetts there Are three churches, the minister of eaoh rejoicing in the name of Wright. One lives in the upper part of town, one in the lower, and the third at the mills; so the people have dubbed their spiritual guides as "Upright,” “Downwright,” and “Millwright.
