der oorer, there will be no need to spend a
wbola day in soouring when it is wanted
for use again. —American Agriculturut,
PnnsnvtMO Boos.—'The Warmer't Ad
vocate recently offered a prize for the beat
method of keeping eggs over winter. The
first reoipe given below took |ha prise:
Whatever exoludaa the air pnventa the
decay of the egg. What I have found to
be the most successful method of doing
so is to plaoe a small quantity of aalt bat
ter in the palm of the left hand and turn
the egg round in it, so that every pore of
the shell is dosed; then dry a sufficient
quantity of bran in an oven (be sure you
have the bran wall dried, or it will rust).
Then pack them with the email ends
down, a lever of bran and another of eggs,
until your box is full; then plaoe in a cool,
dry plaoe. If done when new laid, they
will retain the sweet milk and cord of a
new laid egg for at least eight or ten
months. Any oil will do, bat 1 salt butter
never becomes rancid, and a very small
quantity of butter wilt do a very large
quantity of eggs. To insure fredmees I
rub them when gathered in from the neats;
than pack when there is a suffloieat quan
tity.
Ocnn ros Bolts.—A bun oh of lint or
cotton moistened with a strong solution of
saleratus and applied to a boll or a car
buncle in ita forming stage, will, it is acid,
prevent suppurstkw.
Bun Dsnssiso —A nice dressing for
the hair is said by a correspondent of the
OhritUan Monitor to be cold tea. She
usee it twioe a day, and insures a fine
K wth of beautiful, luxuriant aad healthy
r, with leas trouble, no danger of in
jury to scalp or hair, no expense, and in
less time than any or all of the quack
mixturea which are ao loudly and persist'
ently recommended.
To Polish Tors.—First rub your tins
with a damp doth, then take dry flour
and mb it on them with your hands; af
terward take an old newspaper and mb
the flour off, and the tins, will shins as
well as if half an hour had been spent in
rubbing them with brick dost or powder,
which spoils the hands.
A Kxcxtpt to Cuun Hsssnss —The
following receipt has been given by a
gentleman who obtained it from a French
soldier, who was in our army daring ths
war: After your harness has bean washed,
instead of using oil, take cseteel soap
and warm water. Pot the soap in the
warm water and use the soap to rub the
harness as you would oil. It mekea the
leather very soft and pliabla, and is much
cleaner than oil.
—A new potato, known as the white
queen, (reins blanche), is being cultivated
iu France. In good Soil ^rom twelve to
fifteen tubers are formed; dliiny of which
attain or exceed twenty-two pounds. The
flavor is said to be very fine. Planted in
February or March, it becomes ripe in
duly.
—Mr. W. O. Hall, of Wilkinson county,
informs the Appeal that tea made from
the buds of the sassafras tree is a sure
antidote for poison. Mr. Hall further
states that any one made stok from chew
ing tobaooo can be relieved almoet in.
stantly by chewing the bark of the tree,
and by smoking the dry bark with tobeo-
oo, nausea caused by exoessive smoking
can be relieved.
