Mahone, Bellevue, which re sulted in the serious cutting of the woman. —King Rex will make his accus tomed annual advent into Atlanta on the 6th of January. Arrangements will be made with all the rpilroadH to carry visitors for one fare. —An old negro woman, known as old Aunt Phoeoe, died at Macon on Thursday at the advanced age of 111 vears. She claimed to have shaken hands with Gen. Washington. —The young man Taylor, who de liberately shot a negro to death on the ferry flat near Hawklnsville, af ter a preliminary examination, has been remanded back to jail and will be tried for murder. —A petition has been signed by a large number of the citizens of Talbot county for the pardon of Dick Ma hone, convicted of petit larceny two years ago, and sentenced to four years in the penitentiary. —The Atlanta Library Fair has commenced and the managers expect to realize thousands of dollars. Jolly and Clarkson, rei>- resenting the other, arrived in Mont gomery Monday. —The double dry goods store of r roioehstein on Duupliin street, Mo bile, was burned Saturday night and also the dry goods store'of Woolf* Hogg, und the shoe store of J. H. Jordan. The crockery store of John Elsworth was injured by water and removal. The total loss.ls $1.50,000 to $200,000. Frolichstein on a $20,000 building, was insured for $12,000, and $80,000 on a $90,060 stock. Georgia Home of Columbus loses $5,000. —Mr. Jos. Nicholls committed su icide at Strassburg, on the South and North Railroad, Monday morning, by shooting himself witli a pistol. He was about 68 years old, was a na tive of Germany, and was a sober, In dustrious good citizen. The cause as signed for the act was loneliness, con sequent upon continued separation from his family. The Darien Gazette is (so far as we know) an honest colored man, and one who will not do us nny harm in his new posi tion.” —A number of influential colored men of Augusta have set on foot a movement looking to the establish ment of a cotton factory to be located on the Augusta Canal. As at present contemplated, tlie company will have a capital of forty or fifty thousand dol lars. —Mr. Dodge has fifty or seventy- flye hands at work on his narrow S railroad running from the borhood of Mr. Alexander Mc- Eachin, Telfair county, to Powell’s Landing, on the Ocinulgee river, and has, it is reported, purchased the en gine formerly owned by the German mills, it Tattnal county. —Hon. Warren Akin died at ills home in Cartersviiie on Monday, aged 66 years. He wur a noted law yer, once rau against J. E. Brown, Esq., for Governor, and served as a memberof the Confederate Congress. His home was destroyed by the Fede- rais. Since the revolution he has practiced law witli marked success. —The subscribers to the stock of the Augusta, Knoxville and Green wood Railroad are generally respond ing promptly to the first installment of five per cent, on the capital stock subscribed. The engineers are pro gressing witli the survey of the route between Augusta and Walton's Is land, on‘the Savannah river, where the road crosses. —The President and directors of the Georgia Railroad Company at Augusta have resolved as a matter of compromise to exchange with all bona fide six per cent, bonds of this corporation, with interest from Jan ary 1st, 1878, for tlie Port Royal Rail road bonds, and all past due interest; our bonds to be valued at par, and the Port Royal Raiiroud bonds and inter est accrued, at ninety cents. —In the Methodist Orphans’ Home are 39 children introduced for the year, homes for sixteen of whom have been provided, leaving 22 in Home. One death reported. Out standing indebtedness of $500 lias been paid in full. Cash on hand December 1, 1878, $189.24; collected since, $2,899.39 ; disbursements, $2,- 437.18: balance on hand, $651.50. Rev, L. B. Payne was re-elected Su perintendent. —The Atlanta cotton factory has got its first “wab i’ the loom,” having gained a verdict against an over-san guine gentleman. Mr. Hayden, who subscribed one thousand dollars to wards the scheme and then backed down. The case will be carried to the Supreme Court. It is the opin ion of some of tlie people in extreme Southwest Georgia that the Kimball factory building will be utilized as a "new capitol as good as the one in Milledgeville." —The following Is tlie full vote of the State: Hilary A. Herbert is the proudest man of the Alabama Congressional delegation. He walks with head erect, amj says, his pleasant counten ance beaming with uapplness all the while: “It’s a boy, sir; the first one, and, I tell you, the finest you ever sawl” May lie and the boy live long and prosper. —A desperate fight took place be tween the whites and blacks Satur day afternoon at Muscle Shoals, a small town on tlie Tennessee river, about thirty miles northeast of Tus- cumbin. The fight originated be tween a white man and a colored bar ber. The friends of each rushing in to assist, caused the fight to become general. Revolvers and knives were used freely. The negroes were driven out of town, except three, who were nearly beateii to death. After the mob returned they set fire to the bar ber shop and burned it to the ground witli all its contents. One negro was killed and a number wounded. Three whites were terribly cut and shot, but none killed. A greut deal of excite ment prevailed there last night, and there were fears of a further outbreak before morning.
