C., May 15.—The board of direi mrs of the theological seminary com pleted their business this afternoon and adjourned, most of the members going 1 line on the outgoing trains. The exami nation of students was finished and four vising men were graduated. Dr. Wood- 1,av. in presenting their certificates of graduation, made a strong address. The students have nearly all left the city. The directors took into consideration tiie future of the seminary. No answer having been received to the request for Dr. Woodrow’s resignation, made by the board nt its last session, a reply was requested from him. Ur. Woodrow stated that it would afford him pleasure to comply with the request, hut considering the state of things exist ing at present he did not think lie could honorably do so at this time. This is un derstood to mean that while he is under judicial prosecution before the presbytery (T Augusta for unsoundness in the faith he does not propose to give way an inch. in consequence of this stand of Dr. Woodrow’s his opponents on tiie board urged the immediate closing of the sem inary, lint the proposition was defeated by n vote of seven to six, and the board pro- fa ileil to the election of professors to fill tin-two vacant chairs of the institution. '1 a" Rev. J. A. Lefevre, D. D., of Baltimore, Mas elected to the chair of theology, va cated by Dr. Girardeau, receiving all the votes cast. The Rev. Prof. J. F. T-atiiner, formerly of Davidson College, N; C., and new of Union Theological Seminary, Vir ginia, was elected to the chair of Biblical blerature. formerly occupied by the Rev. Or. Hemphill. He also received all the votes east. The minority of six took no part in this action and protested against the proceeding. The election of a professor of pastoral Ideology was postponed until the next im i tir,g of the board. Mr. W. J. Duffle, c! b'ohunhia, was elected treasurer of the seminary, vice Mr. T. A..
