Perry Campbell, a young white man, was disenibowled by John H. Evans, a companion. Evans has escaped, and Camp bell may die. There are also some facts connected with this matter that it is thought the public will be interested in. It is reported at Butler that George Grantham, a well-to-do farmer of Schley county, struck his wife on the head with an ax and killed her, and afterwards threw her body into an old wet’. No arrest had been made at last accounts. The Western and Atlantic railroad has the youngest telegraph operator of any railroad in the country. He is familiarly culled "Little Jack’’ Williams, and has charge of the office at Graysville. H* is net yet twelve years old. A deep interest was taken by the people in the stock law election, which came off Thursday in the 3'27lh district, which em braces the town of Irwinton. Red ding A 1 Co’s warehouse, at Cuthbert, Inst Friday thut bad been stored there eleven years. It was raised by Ross Cobb in 1S7-1, was attached and went into litigation. The price paid for it was S cents and the hale brought 527 of which went to the warehousemen for storage. This was one instance in litigation in which the usual order of things was varied. It was not the lawyer but the warehousemen who got the biggest slice of the pie. The annual session of the woman's hoard-of foreign missions of the Methodist Episcopal church south began in Augusta Thursday night. Delegates were present from all tlic southern Methodist confer ences and foreign missionary societies. Mrs. Hays, of Bet in 1 nc, was chosen presi dent and Miss Maria Gibson, of Covington, K.v., secretary. Mrs. Hays delivered the annual address, and introduced lady mis sionaries from China and Brazil. Alabama. Mr. F. M. Murphy, of Jackson's Gap, had on Saturday a stalk of cot ton sixteen inches high, with twelve limbs, several squares, and be hasten acres equally as good. It was planted the 20th day of April on ordi nary piney woods land without any fertil izers. Tuesday night a colored man in Mobile named Edward Aden was arrested, charged w'th disorderly conduct. He came to trial Wednesday morning, when if transpired that the accused was chargeable with the more serious offense of stabbing his w ife. Jinny Allen. The woman is seriously wounded in the left side, and war unable to appear in court. Tin- case was there fore continued. Thursday, about ten miles from Opelika, in bent one, Mr. S. J. Watkins, wife and son, ran to an old sugar mill shelter out of the storm. Lightuing struck a gum tree near by, killing the son. about seven years of age. and paralyzing Mr Watkins and t artially paralyzing liis wife. Mrs. Wat kins has since recovered. John Lincoln, a negro ore handler at the tbns.s furnace, in Birmingham, committed suicide by deliberately throwing himself in front of a moving train going at th; ran of fifteen miles an hour. He was instantly killed, his head being crushed out of shape. A radish raised in Union Springs has te en on exhibition at Mayor J. A. Baulk's drugstore. It is about one foot in length, nine inches around and weighs three pounds. Several nights ago a negro woman en tered the house of Mrs. Bordwell, who lives alone near the female college, in Tal tidega, and with a drawn knife demanded vA upon a threat to kill the aged lady if she should refuse. The money was given her, and then she extorted a promise from Mss. B. under a similar threat that sin should say nothing of it. O’Neal pardoned, last week, three criminals from Greene county, and two from Mobile county. Quito a number for one week. Joe Gant, Hannah Gun, Mat TurnerC • nathy, Ellen Gun, and other negroes living in Needmore, a suburban negro village neur Talladega, formed a thief gang some months ago and have cleverly played their new profession to a success. As a result of the combination, Messrs. (Tlmnn A Broth- ' ere’ store was broken into and robbed of cheap goods to the amount of about *100. The crowd since then would go in a body to a store, and while one member would traffic for some trifle, the gang would cleverly fill their inside pockets. Mat Con- liatliy’s house was raided yesterday, and in an old well, two large sacks of goods, pants, umierwenr, domestic, etc., were found. Mat is now quartered at the gov ernment boarding house.
