DAILY ENQUIRER ■ SUN: COLUMBUS, GEORGIA SATURDAY MORNING, .JULY 3, 1886, THE SCOTCH DISTRICTS. \ Few Not,'* on llu I’olitl.-ul situation for Com pari,on. Scotland Is just now the Held of a great ■contest between the liberal and the con servative parties, a contest without a par allel since the famous elections under the reform bill of 1832-33. The American read er need scarcely tie informed that Ninth Britain has long been ove-whelmingly lib eral in its parliamentary representation, hardly 15 per cent, of its membeis in the commons being conservatives. That the present Scotch representation in the house of commons may be shown clearly at this .juncture, it is merely necessary to attention to the following: Coun- Univers- Parly— ties. Burghs, ities. Liberals 82 80 ... tin Conservat’ves 7 1 2 10 Tlie question in American politics that would be among the first to rise is, as to bow many seats are what would here be termed “close districts.” Among the con servatives the closest is that of Mr. Mark J. Stewart, who, although a Wigtownshire tirkeudhight, and business engaged in was furnishing lunch and summer drinks. There was more interest exhibited in the course that would be pursued by the At lanta brewery. It had been understood that the brewery would continue business lust as heretofore, and that a case would be made against it at once. This afternoon I interviewed Mr. Augustus Flescli, the manager, and asked him what had been done. He said the brewery hud shipped beer out of the city just as they have done every day, without any hindrance by the authorities. They had not sued the city, as they had intended doing, owing to the absence from the city of their legal adviser, upon whom they were reiving implicitly. In his absence they invite ' did not think it wise or prudent to take any steps in that direction.and will not un- • I til they can consult with him. It is more than likely they will put the matter to a test to-morrow or next day. Wholesale dealers whose licenses hnve not expired yet are selling wh'sky by the quart. Three wine rooms are open and selling wine by the quart. The Kimball House has taken out a wine license, and hardly knows what to do with it, as the sales to-day amounted to ’ess than .*5. Phillip Breitenbucher, who has pur chased a wine license, says that to-day’s experience shows that there is no money NOT SEARED Totals gh gentleman, represents who was at the head of his poll bv just thirty-four majority. The next, is Sir Herbert Maxwell, of Monceith, Wigtown- . , . , shire, who was elected for his shire by ! m the vvine business, as up to a late hour seventy-nine majority. The others on the J” ’ afternoon he hud sold but three -conservative side were chosen by majori- bottles or wine, ties as follows: 132 for Kilmarnock Burgh; Govan, Lakarkshirc, 155; Dembartonshir BUT THE HEART THROBS OF I TRUE MANHOOD. Hparta, Ga., Sept. 22, 1885.—To the Constitj tion, Atlanta - Were I to practice deception in a case like this, I would think that my heart had become** reared beyond recognition. To he guilty of hearing false testimony, thereby imperiling the lives of my fellow-men, wouid place me beneath the dignity of a gentleman. For twenty long years 1 have suffered untold tortures from a terrible pain and weakness in the small of my back, which resisted all modes and manner of treatment. For a long time the horrifying pangs of an eat ing cancer of my lower lip has added to my mis ery and suffering. This encroaching, burning and painful sore on my lip was pronounced Epi thelial Cancer by the prominent physicians in his section, which stubbornly resisted the be- 4 G R A. On the liberal side, four were returned unopposed ; in other words, their oppo nents conceded the election without a contest, so great was the liberal vote. In comparison to the number of seats to be contested for, there were very few on the liberal side which can be classed as “close.” Mr. E. Noel, for Dumfries Burghs, vva* elected by 187 majority. In Elgin and Nairn, the contest was the closest on the liberal side. Sir G. M. Grant (two liberals, however, being in the field) was successful hy IB majority. In one of the city of Glasgow districts, by two liberals being in the field, the successful liberal was chosen by 121, when it might as well have been 1099. In Inverness a similar contest took place, two liberals entering the field, but there was no conservative •candidate and tlie seat Another close district where the liberal majority was 159. In the Wick Burghs, as In several places else where, there was no consei ,’ative candi date, and the result was that two liberals ran and one came out at the head of the jjoll with 47 to .spare; it was liberal in any event. It is noted that the university votes are conservative. The contests there are gen erally heated if there be any contest made. In tlie Glasgow and Aberdeen Universities at the last election there was no opposition to the conservative candidate, while in Edinburgh and St. Andrew’s Universities there was a warm canvass, the conserva tive receiving 2S40 votes to 2453 for the liberal. The practice ot electing univer sity representatives to parliament was be gun in England in 1603 under James I., and has been continued, so that now there are nine members representing eight universi ties, and the result has been that the con servatives have invariably occupied the •seats of these ancient institutions in the house of commons. The general impression here is that there I medical talent. Judge Anderson cannot be fooled in such matters as he was once a barkeeper and knows all about the business. I The brewery sold no beer in Atlanta to day but made a number of shipments to points out of the city to fill oroers. The management of the enterprise has not yet determined upon what it will do towards supplying the local demand. It is not im probable that the brewery will establish a state agency in Macon, and ship beer there to supply the demand in this city. The merchants here, with but few ex ceptions, complain of the dull time to day, and charge it to the prohibition cause. Chief Justice Andersou, of the police court, has, it is said, revised his rates and will double his usual fines in cases of drink ing, commencing to-morrow. These sufferings of mis* rv and prostration be came so great that, on the 18th of last July, a leading physician sai l that I could not live long er than lour day.-, and I had about given up in despair. The burning Mid excruciating raw a s of the cancer, the painful condition of my buck and breast, and the rapid prostration of my whole system combined to make me a mere wreck of former manhood While thus seemingly suspended on a thread between life and death, I commenced the use of | B. B. B., the grandest blood medicine to me ai d j my household, ever used. The effect was wonderful—it was magical. The excruciating pains which had tormented me by j day and by night for twenty years were soon • held in abeyance, and peace and comfort were restored to a suffering man, the cancer com- | menced healing, strength was imparted to my feeble frame, and when eight bottles had been used I was one of the happiest of men, and felt about, as well as I ever did. All pain had vanished, the cancer on my lip healed, and I was pronounced cured. To those who arc afflicted, and need a blood remedy, I urge the use of B. B. B. as a wonderfully effective, speedy and cheap blood purifier, TRADE PALACE. Look ut tlie prices- 300 pieces fine White Lawn, good goods... New York, June 28.—The Firemen’s Trust and Insurance company of Brooklyn lent Mr. George Seney $140,000 out of its i -capital stock of $150,000. One hundred | thousand dollars of the loan was secured by the East Tennessee and Virginia I railroad bonds, and the balance by securi- J ties belonging to the Metropolitan Bank. The suspension of that institution after Seney’s failure and the consequent depres sion m value of securities macie thelstock- holders of the Firemen’s Trust Company clamorous for a settlement, but the direc tors put their trust in Mr. Burrell aud an advisory committee, to whose exertion the happy consummation is due. The company will not resume business. Air. Seney said to-day that his debts were being paid and that the last of his Brook lyn obligations laid been requited by the payment of the Firemen’s Fund loan. Many of his creditors who were drawing high rates of interest on the money ad vanced did not care to lose such securities. Air. Seney further said that his debts at tin- present time did not amount to one-third of tiie sum which hung over him two years ago. He is prepared to meet his obliga tions at an moment. The senator said: “I know there is much modern teaching, the tendency of which is to keep educated men and schol ars from taking part in public affairs. Too litany American colleges are turning out a class of young men who are making no adequate return to the state for their edu cation.
