New York World. “I atn simply n ghost waiting on the banks of the River Styx for the summons to cross." The speaker was Allen G. Thurman, of Ohio, who ant in tin cosy drawing-room of his daughter’s handsome residence at Richmond Hill, Friday evening. Mr. Thurman is spending a few days with his daughter, Mrs. Cowles, who is the ac complished wife of Lieutenant-Command er Cowles, IT. 8. N. The remark quoted above was addressed to n reporter of tho World. The speaker had all the appear ance, however, of a very lively ghost. He was seated in a large easy oiinir, the his torical bandana lying on Ills lap. He smoked a mild cigar. Mrs. Thurman sat near by at a table apparently busy with some sewing. His daughter' and her sister-in-law, with the pri vate secretary, made up the group. Mr. Thurman’s hair and whiskers are quite white, but lie has the clear, healthy com plexion of a much younger man, and his eyes shone with all of their old intellectual vigor. His hair was brushed hack from his broad forehead, displayingliisstrong, clear cut features to the best advantage. Judge Thurman is the representative of a eliwn of public men that i« unfortunately fast passing away. In spite of all the hmi- or« that nave been Leaned upon him and his great attainments his manner is sim plicity itself. “I am out of polities," he began, “and the only thing 1 can stale positively is that there are not steam engines enough in the country to draw me into office again. Rut while I am out of politics, i take as deep an interest as I ever did in the success of the democratic parly and the triumph of its principles.” “Judge, what is the opinion of tho Ohio democracy regarding Mr. Cleveland and his administration ?" “M,v judgment is that Mr. Cleveland is growing stronger with his party. That seems to be the opinion in Ohio. I cannot speak lor other stales, as I have remained heard what reply Mr. Halstc d made." The judge was Informed that the Ci c'nnatf editor’s reply to Logan was mail, an attack on the 1 linois senator’s Engli- . To this Mr. Thurman said: "Do y remember the story told of an flliter.i member of congress, who once correct the grammar of John Quincy Adam ] And yet Mr. Adams was a pvofesso- ! rehtoHc at Harvaid colleg' ! Haiti more Sun. Thursday last, as will lie remembered, was rather a warm day. The most phleg matic individual could uot restrain the streams of perspiration which trickled all over the body. A great big warm-blooded, impulsive man like Senator Beck was bound under the most favorable circum stances to have a tough time. But Mr. Beck was booked for a speech on the Mor rison surplus resolution on that day. He wanted to free Ills mind on certain points, and it was then or never. So up he got, and for about twenty minutes the words rolled out of his mouth like a torrent, his brawny list pounded his desk like the ham mer of a blacksmith, and his massive head shook vigorously and emphatically with every rising inflection of his voice. When lie finished he was a sight indeed. His col lar Imd doubled up so that it looked like a' narrow piece of wet tape tied around his His ‘ ' neck. His shirt bosom was sobbing with perspiration. Great damp patches came through and exhibited themselves all over the hack of his coat, and his face was naif a heavy rain rain was running down it. While he was thinking how unconiforta- i bly he felt a page came and told him Mrs. very close at home, and haven’t hail an I Heck was up in his committee room and opportunity of judging. At II rut, there was wanted to see him. Jt is a conceded fact that we ajv •ear as our blood makes us, and the purer the tlood, the happier, healthier, prettier and wist) vc are? hence the oft-repeated interrogatory. *how is your blood ?” With pure streams of lift- riving fluid coursing through our veins, boundim; hrough our hearts, nfd ploughing through out .diysicnI frames, our morals become better, oui constitution stronger, our intellectual faculties more nccute and grander, and men, women am. children happier, healthier and more lovely. The unprecedented demand, the unparalleled curative powers, and the unmistakable proof from those of unimpeachable character uiul integrity, point with an unerring finger to B. B. B. Letters from nil points where introduced are pouring in upon us,speakingin the loudest praise. Some say they receive more benefit from one bot tle of B. B. We hold the proof in black and white, and we ulso hold the fort. Pollmnaii'N Views. Mrs. M. M/Prince, living at 38 West Fair street, Atlanta, Qa., has been troubled fojj several months with an ugly form of catarrh, attended with a copious and offensive discharge fr^m both nostrils. She fllpfclly commenced the use of B. B. B., with adecidW improvement at once, and when ten bottles had been used, she was entirely cured of all symptoms of catarrh. As to the propriety of the government bringing a suit to set aside the Bell patents there can be iioquestion. The gov ernment assuredly has a right to bring the suit, nltlnnqjli, of course, the Bell tele phone people are anxious to create a con trary impression. The courts are where the merits of the case must bo decided, and there wns no impropriety in bringing the government suit to have the matter Uvsted. q lie opinions of the commissioner °f patents, Mr. Montgomery, and Assist ant Secretary Jenks, were honestly ren- dered, amt it is improbable that Secretary Lamar could have been influenced except b> the, highest motives in the matter. 1 have known Mr. Lamar intimately for a great many years, and 1 believe him to be a thoroughly incorruptible man.
