before him a dainty glass of rare old sher
ry or Madeira, he will gulp it down with
no more knowledge of its virtues than if it
were a 10-cent glass of Jersey lightning.
So it is with some smokers. One of your
cross-grained men will pull away on a
choice culling from his sunny fields of the
West Indies with no more satisfaction than
if it were an old clay pipe full of navy
plug. Probably he won’t enjoy it as
much. With a man of finer grain, how
ever, it is different.
THE^CONNOISSEUR.
“I enjoy, above all things, the sight of a
connoisseur of the weed at work on a fra
grant Havana. He takes a drinty puff.
Then he draws the cherished 25 or 50-
center from his lips and gazes at it lov
ingly, meanwhile emitting from his lips a
slender thread of blue smoke. Then he
will pause, and the fragrant, soothing nar
cotic will seem to penetrate through every
nerve in his body. That’s the way a man
ought to smoke. I’ve no patience with
those fellows who hurry through their
smoking just as they hurry through their
dinners, never stopping to enjoy it. Such
men rush through life in the same blind
fashion. They don’t know whut real en
joyment is. Smokers have all sorts of pe
culiar tricks and oddities. One man I once
knew had a trick of constantly knocking
off the ashes with his little finger. He
would keep that little finger waggling con
tinually, and when there were no ashes he
would burn his finger. But it was a habit
which he seemed wholly unable to over
come. Some men whom I have known
would always swallow the smoke. The
nicotine laden vapors which they would
take into their stomachs must have kept
those organs in a constant state of disten
sion.
THEIR NOSES AS CHIMNEYS.
“Others seem to find an inexplicable de
light in making chimneys of their noses
and sending the smoke in volumes through
those orifices. I once knew a man who
had a peculiar trick of shutting one eye to
look along his cigar with the other as he j
came to a bead uml broke. Both arms were sore,
and 1 could hardly bear my weight standing, and
hardly know how 1 managed to live through it
all. About this time we moved from Cuthbert
to Atlanta I began to despair of ever getting
well; the sore on my limb was a regular eating
ulcer, now about three inches in length, two
inches in width, seeming to lie down to the hone
and discharging about u cupful of pus matter;
per day, my arms still running, my sleep dis
turbed, and I sometimes thought X would lose my
reason.
A friend recommended B. B. B. I commenced
its use, and I saw an improvement from the very
first. 1 have now taken 8 or 9 bottles, and my
arms are entirely well, and the large ulcer on my
limb has healed. I now feel like a new person,

“The peculiar habits oi smokers will
sometimes run through a whole family. 1
remember a funny instance of that. A
man came to me in my office one day and
represented himself as a brother of an old
friend of mine. He was a shabby, forlorn-
looking specimen, and i was not inclined
to believe his story, especially as there was
no personal resemblance to his brother.
But I sat and talked with him awhile. He
told a plausible story, but still I was not in
clined to believe him, and finally I told
him to clear out, that I couldn’t be both
ered with him. Then my better feelings
came to the front and I gave him a cigar.
He took it with a sad, forgiving smile and
lit it.
ONE “PUFF” AND HE KNEW IITM.
“He hadn’t taken but one puff’ before I
was on my feet begging his pardon. Alter
taking that puff lie had taken out his cigar
with a peculiar jerk and had blown the
smoke out of the corner of his mouth in a
manner which I had noticed and laughed
over a hundred times when with his broth
er I saw him do it. 1 knew then that 1
was not being imposed upon.
