Ben McCoy hits been jailed in Macon for stealing. Joe Parks, a pickpocket, has been ar rested in Macon. Governor McDaniel has offered a reward of f 150 for the murderer of Jerry ltoss, in Webster county. The town council of Warrenton is en forcing the law against shooting within the incorporated limits. The town authorities of Washington have recently taken in six hundred dollars for bar room licenses. The argument for a new trial for the murderer, McCoy, is now over. Judge Branham has reserved his decision. It is said (hat the banking capital of Au- f usta. in 1800, was greater than the present anking capital of the W’hole state. The fall term of the superior court of Madison county convenes the first Mon day in September. There is one murder cause to be tried. There is only about $700 more to raise to make the $7000 to build the Marietta Fe male High school. At a meeting of the board of trustees of the North Georgian Agricultural college at ! Dahlonega, Rev. A. C. Ward was elected to ; the chair of Greek and Lutin, recently made vacant by the resignation of Prof. W. F. Crusselle. Vaus Creek Baptist church, at Ruckers- : vilie, in Elbert county, will have a centen nial celebration in October next. The church was organized in 1785, but the cele bration, for some cause, was postponed till this year. Tom Wigfall, who was confined in War ren county jail for cow stealing and has since been consigned to the Glasscock au thorities, has already brought himself into notoriety in Gibson. He tried his old trick of burning a hole in the jail, but the fire got beyond liis control and he was obliged to call for help. The Macon jail doors have all been re paired, and the jail is as good as ever. The dents made by the mob iu the outer doors remain to attest their ferocity. A five-legged kitten was on exhibition in Dallas one day’ last week. In walking it used all the legs as naturally as if there had not been a superfluous one. It was raised by Jeff Croker, near Dallas. Giles Dewberry, of Atlanta, bought it and had it expressed to him. The store house of Mr. George W. John son, in Georgetown, was broken into last Sunday night and a quantity of goods stolen. Two dollars in silver, left in the money drawer, w re also taken, and the safe was robbed of $.';0ft. The Rome Bulletin publishes this: “In pursuance of a resolution this day passed by the stockholders of the Bulletin Pub lishing Company. there will be sold at pub lic outcry, o.) Saturday, September 11, at 10 o’clock a. m., at the Bulletin office, in Rome, the entire outfit of the Bulletin Pub lishing Company.” LaGrange is on quite a building boom. Bradfield's handsome building is about completed; it is a thing of beauty. H. C. Butler’s modern residence is being rapidly completed. J. G. Truth’s mansion has the foundation laid. It will be a commanding residence. The brick work of Colonel J. P. Thornton’s commodious store has been completed, and with a handsome front. Quite a number of other buildings are going up. Rome is infested with a band of burglars. Saturday night one of them secreted him self in the store of S. S. King, and during the night made way with four dollars in money and a sack of flour. Monday night another found bis way into the wareroom of G. J. Briunt and tapped a barrel of whisky, drinking all he wanted and letting the balance run out. In Macon a detective from the Central City agency went on a scout for Sunday liquor sellers and succeeded in having M. Fitzgerald. L. Greenwood, Mose Green and Pete Harman up before the recorder. Fitzgerald and Greenwood were fined SoO each, and Green and Harman’s cases were continued. Fitzgerald was fooled into selling a drink to a man who claimed he had a chit!. The cases against Green and Harman are conclusive.’ V laliiiioa. At police court in Selma Monday morn ing Alfred Ware and Ben Lewis, two sus picious characters, failing to make known either their identity or whereabouts, were sentenced to 90 days labor on the streets. They are supposed to be among or to know something about the gang of burglars that have recently committed such frequent robberies about that- city. The water had become so 1111 bad that the family could not use it. and Mrs. Kohn ordered the servant to drag the well, supposing that the water had lieen spoiled by a dead rat. After dragging some tune, the servant hooked up the body of a dead child, and dropped it when he made the horrible discovery. The matter was then reported to the police, and Chief Gerald had the body fished out. The child was apparently three or four weeks old and bad been In the well several days. A. Chaffin & Co.’s mill at Milton will city start up in two weeks. Tqe Suwannee Hotel at Cedar Key will be re-opened next week. New corn is selling on the streets of Quincy for forty cents per bushel. The internal revenue tax of Florida last year amounted to $237,265.82. The Lake Dora House near Tavares will be opened next week by Messrs. Taylor & Beauvais. A party of Leesburg hunters killed near there, the other day. two deer and a large wildcat. There are seven prisoners in the jail at Milton. Three for murder, one for ' forg ery, one for carrying concealed weapons, and one for stealing. Cotton continues to roll in at Quincy, notwithstanding the complaints of a very short crop, and a number of bales are mar keted every day. A large excursion is contemplated In the near future from southern points on the Florida Railway and Navigation compa ny’s road to Amelia Beach. Walter Russell has received the material and will issue the first number of a four- column quarto paper at Apopka City, 1 Orange county, to be called the Apopka City Observer. The closing of the Huot and Duryee saw mills at Fernandina loses the city over 820,000 annually in wages to the laboring classes, outside of the loss to the log men in the country. The post office at Ellerslie, in Hernando county, was burned Thursday night. The fire was of accidental origin, mid the building, with all its contents, including j the mail and the mail pouches, were totally destroyed. It is now a little over eighteen months since the Seville Methodist mission was ; formed. It has four regular preaching ap pointments, with a membership ofover , : 100, an elegant church building and par-j ; nonage valued at, $2000. A party of young men went out to Little ; river, near Quincy, last Sunday afternoon ( for a ride, and while there a bullet from a carelessly handled pistol struck Lee Nick- ; olson in the left foot, making a painful though not-dangerous wound. Last Sunday afternoon, near an A. M. K. church, about- six mites north of Quincy, on the XUinhridge road, Martin House was shot and killed by another negro named i George Walker. A coroner’s jury viewed j the remains on Monday and brought in a , verdict that death was caused by a shot from u pistol in the hands of George Wal ker, and that the jury believed' it to be , murder. Walker had an examination be fore Justice O. W. Pittman on Tuesday morning and was committed to jail to await the action of the next grand jury. I Frank Lambert, a young man 15 or If, years old, hung himself at Muscogee, near I Pensacola, last Tuesday. The young man is said to have been subject to irritable spells and queer freaks, the result, his mother said, of a snake bite received sev-j i eral years since, and was hardly regarded I I as of sound mind. On the morning in I question he was unusually fractious, and I on this account a younger brother kept close to him until ndar norm, when the ! | deceased disappeared. Later on he was i i found in an outhouse, hanging by the 1 neck and unite dead, having tied an old piece of rubber belting, some two inches i wide and several feet long, to a joist, and | then slipping a noose over liis neck, was : strangled to death. tober 1st.
