DAILY ENQUIRER • SUN : COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, FRIDAY MORNING OCTOBER 8, 1886. Some Interesting Gossip From National Capitol. the Thp linululnna Polltlclanii Htlrrml Ip-Urn ricvplanil'b Vlnlt to Hullhlo—The lloicrnrmuil’i Inromr anil Kx|Hmdlturi>>i. Washington, October fl—There is a stir among Louisiana politicians and office holders. Senator Eustis, Collector Jonas, and Postmaster Buck, of New Orleans, are here and closeted with tile president every day. The collector and postmaster are denying tho charge that they participated in tno recent convention in J. Floyd King’s district. Senator Eustis wants the scalps of those who did violate the president’s or der, and he will in all probability get them if tho charges can be proven. The presi dent has declared since the case came up thnt he would summarily dismiss any man found guilty. One of the men indicated by the New York Star in an editorial, the United States Marshal, is a brother of Sen ator Oibson. The outcome of the matter is awaited with much interest both here and in Louisiana. WALKER BLAINE. Walker Blaine is on his way to Chicago, whero he expects to make his home in the future. His elder brother, Emmons Blaine, hns been very successful in the west. Ho never had any taste for politics or olllcial life, and declined to accept a government appointment. He has worked his way up until now he is one of the principal attor neys for the Chicago and Northwestern railroad. Walker Blaine has kept more or less under his father’s wing. It will be remembered that President Oarfield made him second assistant secretary of state when his father presided over that depart ment. He retired from tho position when Mr. Arthur became president, but was provided with a comfortablo berth ns associate counsel for the government before tho court of Alabama claims. This court ceased to exist January 1 last, and ho was consequently out of employment. It is understood that he has received a very good offer from a lending Chicago railroad. It is said that he is soon to lx; married to a daughter of Joseph Mi-dill, the editor of the Chicago Tribune, which may account for his select ing that place for his future home. aiVINO BUFFALO THE SHAKE. A special from Buffalo says: Anothor reason for Mrs. Cleveland’s visit to Buffalo at thif. time has been discovered. By her order all the president's effects in bis old bachelor quarters in the Weed block were last evening shipped to Washington by freight over the Lehigh Valley. This seems to indicate that the president does not intend to return to Buffalo to live, which has for some time been suspected. THE NEW MINISTER TO MEXICO, lion. Thomas Maiming the recently appointed minister to Mexico, left New Orleans yesterday for New York, accom panied by Mrs. Manning and bis widowed daughter, Mrs. Johnson. Hu will take tho steamer from there to Veru Cruz, while his family will return to their home in Alexandria, La. A month later they will join him at the Mexican capital. EX-HECRETAHY M’cULLOCH. A prominent figure on the avenue these pleasant autumnal days is ex-Secrotury Hugh McCulloch, formerly of the treasury department, who, despite advancing years, takes great pride in driving himself a pair of spirited bays. Busides a town house on King place, about the Arlington, Mr. Mc Culloch lias a country sent north of Wash ington, where he usually spends the sum mer with his family. His clenn-sliaven face and straight crown high hat seem the same os in tho days of Johnson’s adminis tration, when the treasury portfolio be longed to him, and by a singular coinci dence the closing days of President Ar thur’s regime found Mr. McCulloch occu pying the same post that lie did under a previous president, whose predecessor had been assassinated. Every morning this famous tlnaneial authority rises at an early hour at his country seat, and after break fast lie drives into tho city to attend to pri vate and personal matters requiring his at tention. NEW SILVER CEUTIPICATEK. The general distribution of the new one dollar certificates began to-day, and will be continued until to demand, which is very great, has boon entirely supplied. The notes are now being printed at the rate of 30,000 a day. Tho new two dollar certificates will not be ready for issue for two weeks yet. INTERESTING FIGURES. The treasury department has published a statement showing tho population, not revenue and net expenditures of the gov ernment for the last ftseul year, with the per capita of the revenues and expendi tures. Tho population is given at 58,420,- 000, and the net revenue at $334,430,127, being a per capita of 6.70, or .08 greater than the fiscal year of t885. The expendi tures were #247,483,138 -a per capita of 4.15, or .24 'ess tlian that of tho previous year. Duffy's Pure Italt Whiskey and Duffy’s Formula. For Dyspepsia and Indigestion. Saturn is rapidly becoming stationary in Cancer, and will bring untoward events on Tndia, Holland, New York and other coun tries ruled by that sign. Mars enters Sagittary, heuee Spain will speedily become unsettled and sedition will in crease. In London we may expect fires towards the end of the month, accidents and much crime. So it is with many competitors that cannot keep up with the great march of When Gray secured that large bankrupt stock, and amazed the public of Columbus and vicinity by the quality of the goods, and the prices, intermingled with such crowds that, only can he seen at the Trade Palace, such boasting and pleading was never heard before, by some so-called first- class merchants, in their vain endeavor to catuh a few cus tomers a day to come in their stores, in order to keep them up in spirits and hopes. Until Gray gets through selling out their bankrupt stock, and not have a meteor, like Mark Twain's, descend upon them—well, unless some change their way of doing business, Gray's meteor, charged with public indignation at high prices, will pay them a call soon.
