'f ounp: Chastain, who stabbed and killed Cain Linton, colored, last Saturday night has not yet been arrested. The killing oc curred just one mile from Thoinasville, in the edge of the woods. Chastain escaped in the woods shortly after the homicide, and all efforts to find him have been futile. Two negro boys were thrown from Thoransville express wagons and badly hurt. One had his thigh broken, and the other severely bruised about the head. A little son of Judge Jim Linton, of Thomasville, cut a portion of one of his feet off with an ax this morning. Mr. J. G. Marshal] has been appointed as sheriff of Terrell, to iill the vacancy in the office occasioned by the death of Mr. W. N. Thornton. Six cases have been made against Wash Preasly, a negro preacher at Klberton, for theft. Considerable interest is excited in Savan nah over an investigation made in refer ence to the laches of the police in failing to report promptly the shooting of Kosa Powell by her husband, Allen Powell, at the Fred M. Hull house on the night ofthe 1st instant, through which negligence the murderer escaped. The mayor and police committee had an examination of wit nesses, and will report upon the matter at the next meeting of council, when proba bly some thorough changes will be made in the police regulations. Mr. W. O. Butler, former editor ofthe Leader, has left Elberton for Anniston, Ala., where he takes charge of the Daily Watchman. Mr. W. M. Madison Madisonian: We learn with profound regret that Mrs. Blount Mosely, one of Putnam’s most excellent matrons, and mother-in-law of Mr. Robert Shep herd, of this county, is dangerously ill from the effect of a simple scratch from the bone of a squirrel that she was dress ing for dinner some three weeks ago. She accidentally scratched one of her fingeis with a fragment of bone, which irritated the whole limb and produced blood poison. Thomaston Times: A few days ago the hands on Mr. Robert Alexander’s place heard a dog baying something near by, and on going to see, found it to be a rattle snake. Upon their approach the snake sought safety in an old stump. Procuring hoes the hands went to work and soon un earthed the snake and thirteen of her young. Mr. Alexander does not know whether it was a good day for snakes or not, but is concluding to think it was. Carter nt Levyville, T<evy county, was I discovered to be oil fire, and the house was I nearly consumed before any ono reached It, The loss will reach $2000 to $2500, with no insurance.
