PA1LY ENQUIRER - SUN: COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 2*2, 1880. PLAIN JOHN JONES. How He Opened the Kjce of Some Wolverine Mlm Owner*. T Chicago, October 19.—A Daily News pecial from Ishpeming, Mich., says: John •j.r Jones, who, a few months ago was working as a day laborer, is now indepen dently wealthy. His fortune was acquired In a most singular manner. When he first came here he worked about different mines for awhile, but finally offered twenty-five cents a ton for a pile of rock at the Win- throp Hematic Company’s mines, the money to be paid as the rock was removed. He also bought other piles of rock at the same price. The company was surprised one day when Jones set a force of men at work sorting the rock and carting off the ore. It now transpires that the rock pans out one-half good ore.for which Jones re ceived $6.60 a ton. The Winthrop pile alone, it is said, netted him over $1,000,000. The work has been conducted under the very eyes of the mill owners, who have re garded the rock piles as worthless, and paid no attention to JoneB. The Jones ore has been shipped largely to Joliet, 111. He can buy no more rock piles for twenty-five cents a ton, and the owners are going about fti large numbers sampling the heaps of refuse whioh dot the mining fields. Cancer nf the Tongue. My wife, some three or lour years ago, was troubled with an ulcer on the side ot her tongue near the throat. The pain was incessant, causing loss of sleep and pro ducing great nervous prostration. Ac companying this trouble was rheu matism. It had passed from the shoulders and centered in the wrist of one hand, she almost losing the use of it. Between the suffering of the two, life had grown burdensome. By the use of a half dozen small-sized bottles ot Swift’s Specific she was entirely relieved and restored to health. This was three years ago, and there has been no return of the disease. H. L. Middlebrook. Sparta, Ga, June 5, 1876. For sale by all druggists. Treatise on Blood and Skin Diseases mailed free. The Verdict L'lianliiiou*. W. D. Suit, druggist, Bippus, Ind., testi fies : “I can recommend Electric Bitters as the very best remedy. Every bottle sold has given relief in every ease. One man took six bottles, and was cured of rheuma tism of 10 years’ standing.” Abraham Hare, druggist, Bellville^ Ohio, affirms: “The best selling medicine I have ever handled in my 20 years’ experience, is Eleetrie Bitters.” Thousands of others have added their testimony, so that the verdict is unanimous that Electric Bitters do cure all diseases of the liver, kidneys or blood. Advice to Mothers.—Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup should always be used when children are cutting teeth. It re lieves the little sufferer at once; it produces natural, quiet sleep by relieving the child from pain, and the little cherub awakes as “bright as a button.” It is very pleasant to taste. It soothes the child, soitens the gums, allays all pain, relieves wind, regu lates the bowels and is the best known remedy for diarrhoea, whether arising from teething or other causes. Free Trade. The reduction of internal revenue and the taking off of revenne stamps from Pro prietary Medicines, no doubt has largely benefited the consumers,as well as relieving thej burden of home manufacturers. Es pecially is this the case with Green’s Au gust Flower and Boschee’s German Syrup, as the reduction of thirty-six cents per dozen, has been added to increase the size of the bottles containing these remedies, thereby giving one-fifth more medicine in the 75 cents size. The August Flower for Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint, and the increased size of the bottles will be greatly appreciated by the sick and afflicted, in every town and village in civilized coun tries. Sample bottles for 10 cents remain the same size. . octl2 d&wly Citizen (to farmer)—“How are things nut your way, Mr. Hayseed?” Mr. Hayseed (gloomily)—“They couldn’t be much wuss. Great excitement has been caused in the vicinity of Paris, Texas, by the remarkable recovery of Mr. J. E. Corley, who was so helpless he could not turn in bed, or raise hisnead; everybody said he was flying of consumption. A trial bottle of Dr. King’s New Discovery was sent him. Finding re lief, he bought a large bottle and a box of Dr. King’s New Life Pills; by the time he had taken two boxes of Pills and two bot tles of the Discovery, he was well and had gained in flesh thirty-six pounds. The Best Rheumatic Medicine. M.\ J. W. Marshall, a merchant in Haynsville, and well known in Houston county, Ga., has this to say ubout the “best of all rheumatic remedies:” “I have been a sufferer from rheumatism for 28 years: I am now sound and well: six bottles of Swift’s Specific cured me. I write this in the hope that others may profit by my experience.” Anothor Sufferer. For six years I was afflicted with chronic rheumatism, part of the time perfectly helpless, not being able to walk at all. For a while my left leg was drawn backward until nearly doubled. It had a number of running sores on it. Physicians gave ine no relief. I tried every patent medicine recommended for rheumatism, being a druggist myself, but to no profit. At last I '■ommeneed the use of Swift’s Specific. At first it seemed to make me worse. My leg was much swollen, and I had a physician to lance it. I soon began to improve. Af ter taking less than a dozen bottles of Swift’s Specific, I found myself sound and well for the first time in six years. That was five months ago ; X. have felt no symp toms of the disease since. I believe Swift’s Specific to be the best of all rheumatic remedies made. 1 commend it to all who aro suffering as I have suffered. John R. Peel, With 0. E. Obinohnin, Druggist. Chicago, October 19.—The republican managers of this state and Wisconsin, who have been endeavoring to secure the ser vices of Mr. James G. Blaine for the pres ent campaign, have abandoned the idea. They said that his letter to the Ohio reoub- licans, asking to be excused from going upon the stump in that state, indicates what they have already learned, viz.: That he is unwilling to come farther west than Pennsylvania at this time. From a Minister. Rev. C. T. Clark, a member of the South Georgia Methodist Conference, writes from Tattnall county, Ga.: “One year ago I was taken with rheumatism, and became al most helpless for over tlireo months. All the remedies used seemed to fail until I commenced the use of Swift’s Specific. I have taken five bottles, and am perfectly sound and well again. I would have writ ten sooner, but waited to see if the cure was permanent. And now I unhesitating ly recommend S. S. S. as a safe and reliable remedy for rheumatism. 1 have ail confi dence in its virtue.” It Never KhIIn. I have had blood poison ever since Octo ber, 1885, and obtained no relief from any treatment (and I tried several) until I com menced taking Swift’s Specific. In one month I felt as well as I ever had. I also had a good appetite, and was entirely free from the pains in my shoulder and head, which had tormented me so long.
