The registration in Brunswick has
closed, with 601 white and 297 colored
voters.
Mr. Wm. W. Hill, a prominent planter
of Wilkes oounty, fell a day or so since and
broke one of his ribs.
Over #100,000 worth of property will be
sold al the court house in Athens on the
first Tuesday in December.
John Burns plead guilty of murder in
court at Sylvania Wednesday and was sen
tenced to the penitentiary for life.
Judge Meriwether, of Newton oounty,
and Mrs. C. E. Florence, of Wilkes oounty,
•were married Wednesday night at the resi
dence of the latter, Rev. Morgan Callaway,
of Oxford, officiating.
A great deal of counterfeit money has
been circulated in Rome during the past
month. A number of arrests have already
been made, and Thursday Marshal Shrop
shire added to the number by arresting
Jasper Jackson, who is charged with pass
ing counterfeit half dollars.
Judge John W. Nesbit, of Milton county,
has lived forty-five years at his present
home and has raised a large family, all of
whom are grown. He had, until they
were emancipated, several slaves, and
there has never a death occurred on his
farm, among white or black.
There lives in Marietta a colored woman
102 years old. Her name is Juda Long.
She is hale and hearty, and attends church
nearly every Sunday. She belonged to
Captain Whidby, who was in the revolu
tionary war, and her age was recorded in
the Bible, and consequently there can be
no mistake about it. She is the oldest per
son in Cobb county.
A little four-year-old daughter of Mr.
James Hall, living three or four miles from
Drayton, while playing in the house acci
dentally set her clothes fire last Saturday,
and before the flames oould be extin
guished was so badly burned that she died
about 3 o’clock Sunday morning. Dr.
Niles was called in and did all he could for
the sufferer, but she had been too badly
burned internally, having sacked the
flames down her throat in screaming.
A few days ago Bose Sparks, a son of T.
N. Sparks, was up a muscadine tree, near
the public road in the vicinity of Waverly
Hall, Harris county, and a passing gang of
Georgia Midland railroad hands seeing the
boy up the tree, dressed in light clothes,
making a good target, fired upon him,
striking him in the right, hand and making
a very 3erious wound. Two lingers were
partly amputated, anti the hand dressed
by Dr. L. W. Stanford. The little hoy
does not k.,ow whether they fired upon
him intentionally or were firing at ran
dom.

Sherman P. Whaley has been appointed
postmaster at Lamberta, Baldwin county.
Thirteen new electric lights will be
erected in Selma at an early cate. Ali gas

Since the 30th of September three new
manufacturing enterprises have been
started in Montgomery. They are a broom
factory, a paper box factory ami a sausage
factory. These things make great cities
out of small towns.
Thursday morning a negro trespasser,
named Ne’illy, was found dead on top of a
boiler at the Alice (urnaee near Birming
ham. He had climbed up there during the
night and went to sleep and it is supposed
escaping gas killed him.
Montgomery is to have a stock exchange
on a small settle. Mr. Tom Hannon, at
the Commercial Fire Insurance Company,
is having his boaro prepared on which will
be posted daily reports of the quotations of
all stocks in which the people of Alabama
deal.
Abner R. Hill, an octogenarian, died at
the resilience of his son-in-law, Hon. T. K.
Brantley, in Troy, Thursday night. He re
cently returned from Texas in verv ill-
bealtll. He was the father of Dr. R. A.
Hill, a prominent physician of Coffee
county.
Col. F. C. Morehead has arranged to
start a first-class joint stock monthly iron
paper at Birmingham, the “Southern Iron
Works,” with a Building of its own and a
line equipment. He will also move the
Planter’s Journal to Birmingham from
Vicksburg.
Mrs. Presley Perry, wife of one of the
oldest and most highly respected citizens
of Marion, was accidentally burned to
death Thursday. She was sewing in front
of a grate fire and her clothing caught and
her body almost burned to a crisp. She
lived about eight hours.
Dave Ballon's bar in Selina was entered
by thieves at the back window Wednesday
night. With a hatchet the burglars prized
open the closet door, stealing therefrom
$53.35, also a line breech-loading shot gun,
pawned goods, whisky, wine,etc., amount
ing in value to $450. Alex Bryant, a negro
employed as clerk in the bar, is suspected
as one among the thieves, or chief, who
did the stealing, and accordingly was ar
rested and locked up. The officers of the
law are making close investigation of the
robbery.

Nort-h Tampa, a suburb, was incorported
a city November 9.
Ybor City, the suburb of Tampa, has
over 2000 population.

The Tropical hotel, of Kissimmee, has a

Mayor Rose, of Kissimmee, has sold his
law library and will hereafter deal in real

A snake at Sanford recently swallowed a

thing rich.
Contractor Stewart, of the Sanford and
Lake Eustis, is quite ill and has been taken
to Sanford.
Live Oak wants a Bystem of water works
connecting the town with the Suwanee
Springs.
Postmaster Bryan, of Kissimmee, is go
ing to H&ires City to reside. He will be
postmaster all the same.
Miller & Henderson are to run a line of
steamers to Nassau from Tampa. Alread)
they are importing oranges.
A sidewheel steamer is being built at
Kissimmee by Gibson & Co., to run
through the lake at Punta Gorda.
The foundations of the new Trinity
Methodist Episcopal church on Tolomato
street, St. Augustine, are now being laid.
The St. Augustine and Palatka railway
will, in the course of a few days, run its
trains across the St. Sebastian river into
St. Augustine.
Mr. Hedges, civil engineer on the San

A lady was having a well dug in Lees
burg. The digger made a stroke with the
crowbar which passed on dow a ward,nearly
scaring the negro to death. On investiga-
tion a small lake or pool of water about
twenty feet In diameter was discovered.
Another gentleman having a well dug left
’t on Saturday night with the tools at the
bottom, without any sign of water. When
he returned Monday morning it wbb run
ning over. Another well was sunk on the
edge of a limo sink where tho best of free
stone water was found.

water power on the Chattahoochee river, in the
County oi Muscogee aud State of Georgia, by con
trolling the waters oi sale Chattahoochee river
with locks, dams and>nch other means and de
vices as may be necessary to enubli them to sup
ply water power for manufacturing purposes to
such mills and machinery as may be thereon lo
cated aud which may be hereafter purchased mid
erected by said corporation, and to such persons
or corporations as may purchase, lease or rent
said water power or any part thereof from it
To construct and maintain all necost ary caua’s,
chute!-, flumes, sluices, dams, tramways and other
appliances on, upon and through the lands and
property of saiu corpora tion for the proper dis
tributt on, utilization and preservation of said
waterpower an*: which may be found essential
and useful for said purposes.
To utilize and improve all the lands acquired by
said corporation at und contiguous io said water
power upon the cast and west bunks of the Chat
tahoochee river, in ilie States of Georgia and Ala
bama, by erecting thereon mills, machinery, fac
tories ami other bui.dings, and engaging in the
manufacture of cotton wool and all ot her fibrous
ano textile materials into yarns, cloth, thread,
rope and other fabrics, goods and products of ov
ery kind whatever.

consideration; manufacturing cotton seed into
such products as can be obtained theri from;
grinwingcorn, wheat and other grain and produce

flour, meal and its ot her products.
The furnishieg of power and the production and

eat, for motive power and for such mechanical
and other uses and purposes us it may be adapted
to; und supplying, leasing and selling the same

der ground, and other apparatus, electrical de
vices and stations throughout said Cou:.ty of
Muscogee as may be necessary to convey, furnish
and supply the same to public and private con
sumers.
The manufacture of paper in all its forms, and
of paper, timber, wood and metals into such
utensils, woodenwure, machinery and other
goods as may be produced therefrom; and the con
ducting and carrying on oi the manufacture of
ail ami eve: y other kind of goods, wares, machine
ry, wood and metal products, or such branches or
parts thereof as may be found e»*ent’al and de
sirable for the profitable employment and im
provement oi the said water power und property.
Said corporation to have power and authority to
sell, lease or rent its said water power, lands, ma
chinery, facto* ies and buildings, or such parts at d
funds to such persons or corporations as may oc
cupy its said property; to aid and promote the
carrying on by them of their said manufacturing
business, and to make and execute all uecostary
conveyances and other instruments, and to enter
into all proper contracts anr. agreements for the
exercise ol this authority and the securing of its
said advance s.
Also, to have power and authority to lay

bonds in the name of said corporation, without

property, rent and personal, or of such parts or
portions thereof as may he desirable; anil to loan
out its surplus earnings upon mortgage or other
available security.
To elect ami appoint such officers, managers,
directors and agents as it desires; and to provide
such rules and regulations with respect to stock
holders who »efutc to pay up uny balance due on
their stock us will compel them t o pay upon pen
alty of sale or forfeiture of such mock, and to do

execution of its powers and to carry out the ob

The individual property ot each stockholder
shall not be liable for the debts, liabilities, pbli-
gutions or default of said corporation except to
the amount of unpaid stock subscribed by such

Wherefore petitioners pray that they, their as
sociates and successors be duly incorporated un
der the name as aforesaid for t he term of twenty
years, with the privilege of renewal, with all the
p -wers herein prayed ior, and with such other
powers and privileges as are incident lo corpo
rations under the laws of this stare, and that af
ter the filing, recording and publishing of this
petition, as provided by law. the Court will pass
an order declaring this application granted.

holders of said company it was resolved by said
stockholders that application should be made lo
alter and amend the charter of said company, so
as to provide that the stockholders should, at the
annual elections, choose nine directors anions
said stockholders instead of five, as provided by
said charter.
Wherefore, your petitioner prays that an order
may be passed at the next November term ofpuid
Court declaring said petition granted, and that
the Fourth Section of said Act shall be so altered
and amended as that the same sha 1 read us fol-

ors. or a majority of them may appoint a presi

and functions as the by-laws of said corporation
