Among the many happy family reunions on Thanksgiving day, perhaps none were more pleasant tlmn that which occurred at the resi dence of Mr. William Beach, on Twelfth street, in this,cily. Mr. Beach is 78 years old, but is still ns active and alert as he was a quarter of a cen tury ago, and his face still brightens up nnd glows with emot ons of pleasure as it did in the days of his youth. Nor is this any wonder, since in glancing buck over the years he cun contem plate a life which has been devoted toothers, nnd which is cheered as it nears its western verge by the consciousness that he has done wlr.it he could in ail the manifold relations that en com passed him. 3 he Thanksgiving dinner at Mr. Beach’s house was emphatically a family gathering, though the table was tillfcd with all the delicacies of th$ sea son. There were present Mr. Beech’s two so ru in-law, Alderman D. P. Dozier and Mr. W. A. Huff and their wives, and his son Mr. Eilwnrd Beach and his wife, besides the grand-children a> <1 other relatives. The day was happily spent* I nnd will long be remembered. Person ul. Judge W. I. The Meriwethe* Vindicator says: “Woodbury is booming more heavily than ever. The rail road authorities have located the site for the depot and everybody is hapyy. Confidence is fitui; every body knows what to do, where to build and how to build and upon what scale to build, and enterprise is hooping things right along. The depot is to be upon the lauds of Mr John R. Jones, where the construction company first thought of placing it. Mrs. Susie Wiicher, aged 84 years, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary McColloughs, in Browueville, at 1V.05 o’clock Thursday morning, after an illness of eight weeks. She had been a ■ufferer with consumption for two years. She was r. member of the M E. church, and held her membership at Pearce CLappel in Harris county. An Irn'crnliitr) Fire. The corn crib on the plantation of Rev. William Amos, several miles north of the city, was burned Thursday night He had about finished gathering his corn crop, but fortunately only a very small part of it had been housed. While on the cnb fighting the fire the limb of a tree fell on Rev. Mr. Amos and knocked him sensei css. II s arm was also quite painfully bruised, but his in juries are not seriouv. It has been only a few weeks since Rev. Mr. Amos lost his gin house and a lurge quantity of cotton by fire. In both instances it is thought th.it the.lire was of incen- diary origin. The happy couple have the best wishes of a host of friends. Shot Him in Self Defense. News reached the city yesterday that Mr. P. J. Biggers, who resides about nine miles north of the city, had shot a negro. It seems that the negro was drunk and went to Mr. Diggers’ gin aud attempted to take charge of it. Mr. Biggers protested, and the negro tett, threatening to re- j turn and kill him. Iu the meantime Mr. Biggers provided himself with a gun, aud when the negro returned with a guu in his hands Mr. Big gers shot him. The guu was loaded with bird shot aud the wound is not serious It is con ceded on all sidet that Mr. Biggers acted in self- defense. Married at Upaloi**.
