Din House Burned,
The gin house belonging to Erasmus Stephens,
colored. in Russell county, was burned on Friday
night, togother with two bnles of cotton and a
quantity of cotton seed. There was no insurance.
It is thought that the (Ire was the work of an in
cendiary.

be “A Practical Question.” The members and
friends of the Y. M. C. A. and the public gener

We learn that a malicious negro named Joe
Hunt, who resides at Chipley and who had been
attending the circus at Hamilton Friday after-
noon, boarded the Columbus and Rome passen
ger train to return home and while the train
was running pulled out his hnife and cut the
bell cord. Conductor Holt, as soon as ho ascertain-

—Snow fell in Madison, Ga., yesterday to a
depth of two inches.
—DeHaven’s menageria begins a week’s en
gagement here to-morrow.
—Yesterday was beyond doubt the most disa
greeable day of the season. Considerable ice was
reported along the line of the Southwestern
railroad.
—Jake Rhodes, a nego employed at the Musco
gee mills, had one of his feet caught in the gear
ing of the fly wheel and badly lacerated. Dr.
Jordan dressed his wounds.
—The infant of Mr. and Mr*. J. E. Fitzgerald,
of Russell county, died on Friday, and the re
mains were taken by boat to Florence yesterday
for interment. Their many friends sympathize
with them.
—Mr. J. B. Weisiger, superintendent of the
street car company, publishes to-day a schedule
for the running of cars in faturc. It will prove
quite a convenience to the public.
—A small sensation was created at a negro
boarding house near the union depot yesterduy
by the report that a negro named Ben Dense had
taken morphine with suicidal intent. Dr.
Cameron, city physician, was summoned and
found Dense beastly drunk.
—Thejcounty commissioners held their monthly
meeting yesterday and passed the usual amount
of orders. They also paid the Columbus Iron
Works between seven and eight hundred dollars
for the new iron steps which have been erected in
front of the court house.

run so as to make close connections at each
switch.
The first car will leave Rose Hill at 7 a. m. and
every fifteen minutes thereafter until 8:45 p. m.,
passing each switch at intervals of fifteen min
utes.
The last car to run at night will leave Rose
Hill at 10 p. m., and returning, leave Greer’s
corner at 10:45 p. m,
A car will run regularly to and from the pas
senger depot, and be on time tor the arrival anfl
departure of all passengei trains.
The clocks in each car were presented to the
company by Mr. C. Schomburg, jeweler, who will

Two Coaches Arrived.
One passenger and one combi nation coach
reached the city yesterday for the Georgia Mid
land railroad. These are for temporary use until
their elegant coaches, now being built by the
Jackson & Sharp company, arrive iu January.
The present coaches will be then used for excur
sion purposes. The construction company has
built the road so rapidly the car builders were not
ready with the fine passenger coaches in time for
the first schedule. In Januaiy the Midland will
have the finest public cars ever seen in the south,
or anywhere else.
