I 3 Rimlnlico.rn lUnntnttlrn of thr i> lnttfJ Knight’* M.nnrn, The recent discussions in tho newnrmr,,.,-. as to the relations in this past bet\ V p?n I vc Blaine and Senator EdmundsandM- Blaine and the late ex-Preside’nt Arthur have revived with more than one cognizant of the feete the memory o?a dinner given at tho executive mansion of President Arthur early in 1882 soon Mr. Frelinghuysen had succeed Mr Blaine as secretary ot state. Botli those gen men and their wives, several senators with their wives, aud Senator Edmunds, but not his wife, and members of tho cabinet mid their wives were present. Mr Blaine seemed to be especially irritable, and the impression formed by most of those who •witnessed hiB displays of temper was that he was d sappointed in being superseded in the cabinet, and took the first opportu nity to show his resentment. First,he took .offence because President Arthur, wh 0 was using a most conciliatory tone, and who purposely singled him out by addressing ™ the table® ; ■ ~' JC ™ tub lanio cal ing him each time, “Mr. Secretary,’ 1 Mr. Blaine said to the lady next him and 1 “He knows, none better, that I am no longer seeretary and If he calls me that again I’ll take him up." The lady remonstrated with him as to this purpose in vain, for a few minutes later when President Arthur again leaned forward with a pleasant remark, but nro- flxed it by calirng Mr. Blaine “Mr See e- tmy,” the latter brought his hand down with a force that made the lady next him on whose knee it fell writho in actuai pain (for she says the blow really bruised her), and Mr. Blaine exclaimed in a loud angry tone which riveted the attention of all at the table: “How can you," speaking to the president, “address me by that titto of which you have deprived me? You know I am not a secretary any longer ” President Arthur answered with admi- Table tact*. Oh, I thought once a secretary always a secretary, like once a general or governor always a general or governor.” Just after this Mr. Blaine proceeded to vent his ill-humor on Senator Edmunds, who was also opposite him, and tulked in so loud and angry a tone that the gentle men and Indies present all stopped talking to listen, and several attempts were made to turn the discourse to more ngrecable subjects, fears being entertained that seri ous results might follow. Indeed, Senator Edmunds said afterward that had Mr Blaine continued to address him in that tone and manner he would have demanded a meeting at another time and place to settle the matter, for he knew too well what was due to the president, his host, to continue the discussion at hia table.-- Washington Correspondent. Despairing af Coigma. None of the lessons set of the Into elec tions will probably be needed. The least hopeful anticipations now formed of tho present session are nearly certain to be the ones which history will write as the veri fied facts of this congress. This is likely to be true not merely in spite of the favorable and flattering predictions of optimistic correspondents, but really because of them. —Brooklyn Eagle. After s Proloased Rtrrprala. In 1864 I contracted blood poison. Since that time I have suffered tortures from »:\ affection of the skin, rheumatism and ulcerating sores. Daring those long years of disease I underwent treatment at the hands of leading physicians in Norwich, Hartford, Providence, Boston and Chica go. Failing to get relief at one place, I would go to another, but met with the same treatment and effect everywhere. The quantities of mercury and potash I have taken have not only doue me ne good, but I believe it has done me much harm. I have taken S. S. S. six weeks, and it is hard to believe my own feelings, though the fact that it has done more for me in that short time than all other medi cines have in twenty years is plain and undeniable. Six weeks ago I was a total wreck, without hope. Now that I have taken fourteen bottles of S. S. 8. my rheu matism is among the things of the past, and the scars only show that I was dis eased. When I be^an taking Swift’s Spe cific there was a large eating ulcer over my right eye which alarmed ine greatly, and no one who saw it thought I would ever get well. Like the other it is gone, and f thank God for the creation of tho Swift Specific Co. and their great remedy. D. K. W. Briggs. Brooklyn, N. Y., Nov. 18,1885. It will be rather awkward for Mr. Blaine, after James has interviewed his father, to coma out and say that the re porter put him down inaccurately.—Cou- Tier-Journal. Free frill. The redaction of internal revenua and the taking off of revenne stamps from Pro prietary Medicines, no doubt has largely benefited the consumers,as well as relieving the burden of home manufacturers. Es pecially is this the case with Green’* Au gust Flower and Boschee’s German Syrup, as the reduction of thirty-six cents per dozen, has been added to increase the size of the bottles containing these remedies, thereby giving one-fifth more medicine in the 75 cents size. The August Flower for Dyspepsia. and Liver Complaint, and the German Syrup for Cough and Lung trou bles, have perhaps, the largest sale of any medicines in the world. The advantage of increased size of the bottles will be greatly appreciated by the sick and afflicted, in every town and village in civilized coun tries. Sample bottles for 10 cents remain the same size. octl'Z d&wly Shawneetown Philosophy. “Whar de hen clucks dar be do hug. Whar de hen cackles, dar lay de egg.
