In a quarrel over a game of cards at
Savannah, James Maloney was severely
cut in the nock by A. M. Barbee, a well
known carpenter. Both men had been
drinking. Barbee was arrested, put Ma
loney, who was unable to get out, sent
word that ho wonkl not prosecute, as he
was to blame.
Henry Ware, of Washington, was attend
ing to a water gin Friday, ami concluded
that the motes needed looking after. liais
ing the breast with his right hand he felt
for the motes with his left, and when he
did so the gin put in its work by mangling
two of his lingers so badly that they had
to be amputated.
Among other presents sent the Quitman
Guards, of Forsyth, for their fair, and sec
onding their efforts to procure for them
selves au armory, is a liberal check from
the Central railroad authorities, thus show
ing the appreciation of this strong corpora
tion of the importance of well-equipped
military organizations of the slate.
John Saggus, of Taliaferro county, as
sisted by his sons, was building a shed to
his house last Friday, and, while a heavy
plate was being put in place, it slipped
and tuushed him to the earth. The limber
struck him on the back and broke several
ribs, inflicting swell serious internal inju
ries thatlhe died in loss than an hour.
KLast Tuesday night .Mr. James H. Brew
er, who lives just a mile from Hinesvdle,
happened to the misfortune of losing bis
barn, stables, and his horse by Are. At 2
o’clock at night the family were aroused
by the noise of the II lines, but. it was too
late to save the barn or tue horse. It is
supposed that tlie tire originated tiom
stumps which were burning in the tleid.

A meagre report came to Birmingham
Thursday of a tragedy on the soutu bound
Queen and Crescent passenger train \\ oil-
nesday afternoon at Wheeling, ten lmies
above Birmingham. The story goes tuat
several drunken negroes got aboard the
train there; that as the train was starteu
their boisterous conduct brought Conduc
