Th© outlook for the future trade of
Atlanta is indeed hopefoL There are
few cities in this country that have such
pr> epecta There are six railroads now
bulkin g or in earnest contemplation
that will swell the volume oi our ernr

tern—the Cincinnati Southern which
will have its terminus at Boyce’s; the
Elberton Air-Line, which will be com
pleted in a few weeks; the Hartwell
branch, which will undoubtedly be
built; the Lxwrenceville branch; the
Marietta snd North Georgia extension;
and the extension of the N rth and
South railroad. All theaa will be short
ly completed, and when the Western
railroad is finished and tbe Northeast

Gap, Atlanta’s system of roads may be
said to b.* perfect.
IMA 1 MOM ASVJLLM FAIR,
We have received the premium list
of the South Georgia Agricultural and
Mechanical Association -a handsome
pamphlet of twenty-seven pages, print
ed at the Morning News establishment.
If anyihirg the premiums are li
snd more varied than last year, when
the fair was see a a conspicuous sue
cess. The military prise of ooe thou
sand dollars to tbe military companies -
one-half to tbs best drilled, one-third to
the ffC’nd best, snd onwsixth to the
thud beet—is contingent upon the en
trance cf twenty companies. If a lest-
number enters the premium will be
scaled in proportion. Governor Go!
quitt has brea elected chairman ^cf the
board cf judges. Oar information ie
that the fair will be a more coaspicoou

McLendon, the secretary, is ecergetii
and progressive. The fair, in order no
to co&fi.ct wilh the Atlanta exhibition,
will open on Tueeday, the 12 h of N >

is not that a man belongs to *
was au o\,d whig, a t-ec^ aaionil

office during his admir.i.j ration. Tl^h
tn able is that Dr. Fulton loves office
himself and loves it bad:y, and will
fight any man, be he saint or sinner,
ringster or independent, repub! cm or
democrat, white man or bl?.ck, who
dares to cross his path.
And here we have the true and only rea
son why the doctor did not go to work
inside the democra ic party, and try to
purify i', and cure it oi the “ring” and
all its other erib sod diseases. If he
had believed in 1874 that the conven
tion would nominate him, he would
have gone before it and worked as hard
aa any other aspirant for the nomina
tion. The man who in view of all
the fac:s doubts this, ought to be put
' into & straight jacket.
CHANGE CF BASE.
But the doctor has changed his
ground since 1874. Then it was the
“ring” the naughty “ring” —that
smothered the voice of the people and
wonld not let it be heard. Now it is
the “convention system,” if I may
iud,;e from the only speech I have
heard him deliver this year. This ts a
step forward. At first it was the “ring”
ana its unscrupulous managers. To
day it ia the “convention system” and
its wire-pullers. Ntx it will
be the democratic party and ita
corrupt aiders *nd abettors. And last
of all, ne and his misguided followers,
separatiig themselves from the true
sheepfold, will t&ke their fiaal stand
with “ the giateon the left”—with the
advocates of radicalism, of strong gov
ernment, and of war ana the later hor
rors of reconstruct ion. I, for one, 6h&ll
be sorry to see the dector part company
with us. With less ambition -or rat.' er
with his ambition thasldi d and >ub-
ordinated to thn g* od of the party and
the people—he con id be made a mmt
useful public man, whom all would be
del ghted to honor and advance. He
seems to have forgotten that no man
ever won m« re than a temporary tri
umph who defied his own party and
separated himself from it. He will
search history in vain for an exception
to this rale. And this (act I would im

THE YOUNG HBN
of the seventh district if they desire
to enter upon public life; if they are
ambitions to serve their country, and
to restore tbe govern m^ntto i's ancient
and henest ways, they will find that
this can be done here in the sen h
only by allying ibeauelves with tbe
democratic party. Theie is no
other opening presented m ’he south
ern slaves to the yon hfa. patriots or
the wise statesmen Tne younx men
are the hope of the country, a<< the old
men are its crown of slory. But the
democratic party is stronger and more
Iqating than the one, a’ r d older and
wiser than the other; and it will re
main here, full of life end strength,
despite the assaults of foo and the
treachery of friends, long after we all
shall have passed away forever. It
now bolds undispu’ed sway in every
elate and in almost every district in the
southland the day is fast approaching
when ft will regain c nirol of every
branch of tbe federal government, aa
well as of most of Uie states of the
north. This Let should not be over
looked by the youthful patriot who is
ambitious to serve his country. The
democratic party presents the widest
and noblest field for the exercise of his
talents ar d the gratification of his «>m-
bition. It is, besides, the only party
for honest men and patriots. And
above all, let it be remembered by both
youi.g and old, that the public man
who defies its will is snre to perish.
