Some twenty children, living on Huckey street, in this city, a densely populated Ger- man neighborhood, were poisoned by eating bv Miges, which were scattered along the street by a man and two boys, who are unknown Two of the children are dead,and many others are not expected ^ live. The motive for perpetrating such a crime is net known. The |arsons have not been arretted. The murder of Mr. Horton, who, after mur dering his wife, cut bis owu throat, is .‘till living, though there are nut faint hopes of his recovery. He assigns bis reasons for the mur ders to bo a eriraiuai connection of his wife with Horton. Washington, July 22. f.'apt. H. B. Tyler has been appointed ad jutant and inspector of the marine corps, in tie place of Major Heule, deceased. The Secretary of the Iuterior this afternoon dispatched an agent to Minnesota, tu ascertain 'be true condition of Indian ulTuirs in that Territory, and with instructions to the super- independent in reference to the apprehended troubles in that Territory. Senator Bigler has written to a friend in Washington, emphatically denying the Gory that he and Governor Walker have entered in to arrangements for the purchase of Kansas Indian lands. Louisville, Ky., July 22. Mr. Prentice, ol the Journal, and Mr. Uur- rcit,*of the Courier, were arrested this evening and held in the sain of three thousand dollars each to keep the peace. JNkw York, July 22. Some excitement was occasioned to-night by a fire breakiug out in the Exchange. For tunately it was extinguished before unv seri ous damage was done. Chicago, July 22. The bark U. J. Kershaw, Oapt. Pierce, left here this evening for Liverpool, Eng. A sa lute was fired on the occasion. A diuner was given her officers lost evening by the Board of Trade, who accompanied the bavli to Lake Erie.; New York, July 23. Too Circassian brings intelligence that the whole of the telegraphic cable would be ship ped by the 20th of July. , Albamt July, 21. There is a bad break in the Erie canal, about three quarters of a mile West of Albion. 80 acres of l.and^ Ich is cleared This plantation is lo- cated in Pike County, Alabama It is excellent Land for Cotton ; rich enough for all Farming purposes ; and is well watcrad. They also, oiler lor sale 4000 Bushels of Con; 20 Mules, and all tbeir farming utensil*. Besides these, if desired, they wilt tell 40 Ne groes, good house and field hands. The Land lies level; and is within 12 miles of Union Springs, where the Girard A Mobile Rail Road, will, in a few months, run. The land is fresh, and the location is as healthy, as any part of the State. Purchasers will please call at the Plantation or at Louisville, Uarbonr County, Alabama where one of us can always bo found. They have also other small tracts of Land, in s ’ 1 near Louisville, for sale. Phis property is offered for sale, for no other reason than the undersigned intend to quit farming.
