Death op an E'xckllaxt Ladt.—Mrs. Hat- j
tie Wurthen, the beloved wife of Thomas I
Warthen, Esq., of this county, died on Tues- j
day last. She had been in feeble health for |
some time past, yot the messenger came at 1
an unlooked for moment, while she was on a
visit to her parents, and ere her husband
could reach her, the pure spirit had tuken its
flight. Itis sad to record the* death of one
so young, so accomplished, so loveable, yet

Mexingitis is making sad havoc in Wash
ington county, several students from Mercer
having died since their arrival from Macon.
We clip the above from the Union & Re
corder of the 5th. If there has been a case of
this dread disease in Washington connty since
18G9, it has not come to our knowledge, and
we try to keep posted. To the contrary of
the above paragraph, our connty is greatly
blessed in point of health.
