This was in 1864. In 1869 Count Potocki pur
chased a house and grounds in the Avenue
Friedland, and furnished it magnificently with
works c i art, including paintings by the old
master?. As before, the purchase was made
in the name of Count Gregoire Potocki, who, ^ HR |||||J

connection with a young German woman
named Rcse Catana, the present plaintiff, a

for her habits and her energetic character.
The war intervened, and while Connt Mieces
las went to London, Gregoire remained in
Paris, and during the siege took his mistress 1
to reside t*t the mansion, where she assumed
the title of Countess. That step was highly
disapproved by the father, who, on learning
of it at the close of the siege, wrote a letter
of reproach from London, and the young
man excused himself by alleging the excep
tional circumstances in which they had been
placed by the investment. Gregoire and Rose
Catana then went to live at a villa near S:.

plaintiff brought forward a will, dated the
4th of September, 1870, and signed Couet j

to Mile. Rose Kette Catana, his residence in
the Avenue Friedland, on condition that she
shall pay his debts, and assure a dowry of 100,- 1
000 francs to their daughter. The plaintiff

The music on this grand occasion will be the best
that can be ptocured.and the gentlemen who count
and place the tag* an l gifts in the wheels and auper-

numbers will be chosen from the best known and
most trustworthy citizens oi the State. All will be so
conducted as to be a perfect guaranty against com
plaint from any just source.

May 9tb, Galignani’s Messenger gives the
result as below: “The Civil Tribunal of the
Seine gave judgment yesterday in the strange
trial, an account of which was published in
the Messenger of Monday last. The court
