If, in the coarse of these chronicles, panegyric should creep from my pencil point, rest assured it shall come spontaneous—a reward of merit—the up-bubbling of a well fed and well attended soul. Having pawned my watch to preserve my self respect, I am enabled to pay my way and blow an in dependent bugle. COLONEL LEHARDY AND HIS PRINTING MACHINE. I met Col. Eugene LeHardy (late of Rome) on the train, en route from New York. Col. LeHardy is a son of Baron LeHardy of Ger many, who, with a colony of Germans, came ‘ to Floyd county and settled down to agricul tural * pursuits some fifty years ago. Eugene, then a young man of fine talent, surveyed the Western and Atlantic Railroad, and rose to be one of the first en gineers in the State. Of latter years be has been devoted to the invention of a type-setting machine. He was possessed of ample means, and, going to New York, purchased from a foreign gent, at a heavy cost, an interest in the best machine then be ing built The trade was a perfect suooees, barring the trifliDg fact that the foreign gent didn’t have a particle of interest in the won derful machine, and wasn’t even acquainted with anybody that did. Having carefully balanced the loreign gent on the toe of his most reliable boot, the Colonel fanned him into a fever and then spilt him down the steps. He then went to work to remedy his mistake. Yellow Front, Ken Blade, of last week: To sLow the corrupt condition of some va rieties of fruits this season, a lady bought some raspberries, put them in a saucer on the mantle—intending, when at leisure, to add sugar and cream to the fruit. In course of a couple of hours, she took down the saucer, and what was her astonishment and disgust to discover the pile of berries was one seething moss of insect life—worms! These, which were invisible when the fruit was gathered, had rapidly developed into the size of mag gots, and the result of eating such fruit is cholera. In the opinion of many physiologi cal scientists, the air of those localities that are strongly infected with cholera is full of t iJi-eet, these diminutive insects, unconsciously in baled by victims to the disease.
