In Cortes to day a resolution of censure was directed
against the insurgents. Senor Castular made an elo
quent and patriotic speech counseling moderation on
the part of the Republicans. The resolution was
adopted 19.'» to 15.
The Majerra tobacco factory, the last refugee of the
insurgents in Saville has been captured by the troops.
Large numbers of prisoners were taken, among whom
are several foreigners—members of the international
society.
The Carlista, one thousand strong, attacked Partu-
galite, seven miles from Belbao this morning. The
garrison made a vigorous and successful defense. The
Cerlista were defeated with heavy loss, and driven over
Salindo river.
The town of Alhama, thirteen miles from Murcia,
rain along the river valleys, with clearing and clear
weather; higher temperature on Sunday for the Gulf
States and Tennessee; northwest winds, lower tem
perature, cloudy weather, and rain for the South At
lantic States; southwest winds, cloudy weather, lower
temperature and occasional rain on the coasts; for the
lower lake and Middle States, with rising barometer:
slightiy lower temperature, northwest winds and clear
ing weather; for New England, warm and parity
cloudy weather, low barometer, sonth winds and local
storms.

manders had decided to hold General Contreras as
hostage till the vessels are returned.
Eight siege guns aud two mortars have been sent to
the Republicans belore Valencia to assist in bombard

The Prime Minister, Mineghetti, bas written a letter
to his constituents denying that the Italian Govern
ment contemplates a new loan.

A Dreadful Railroad Accident.
London, August 2, 1873.
A dreadful accident occurred this morning on the
Northwestern railroad near Wigan, to the express
train from London. Twelve persons were instantly
killed and three were wounded. Among the killed is

Beturn of a Pet Begiment—Funerals of Two
Murderers.
Baltimore, August 2, 1873.
The Fifth Msrylaud Regiment of the National Guard
arrived home this evening from Cape May, after ten
days' encampment there, and were received at the
depot and escorted to their headquarters, with all the
booors, by the Sixth Regimeut. Baltimore rejoices
at the return of her pet regiment.
Joshua Nicholson’s funeral took place this lorenoon
from his father's residence on East Madison street.
The procession was large, including twelve carriages.
Hollihan’s funeral also took place to-day, under tbe
auspices of the Prisoners’ Aid Association. His body
was placed iu a vault in the Baltimore cemetery to
await the arrival of hia relations from Canada.
THE EXILED GERMAN JESUITS.
New' Yo^k, August 2, 1873.
Foreign advices by to-day’s mail state that the Jes
uits expelled from Germany have, in part, found a new-
home in Lancashire, England, after they had wander
ed through France, Belgium and England. The broth
er Stapleton placed an estate at their disposal, and
the fathers at once established a convent at Dilliahal 1
with nearly one hundred inmates. Other colonies of
German Jesuits have established themselves at Stony-
hurst and at St. Buenos, in North Wales.

General Sidney Sherman, the last cavalry comman
der of San Jacinto, died in this city last night, and will
be hurried this evening, with milifary honors.
A special to the News, from San Jacinto, gives an
account of more Indian outrages along the irontier at
Fair City, Perias Bridge and Brady’s Creek. There is

been there ever since, up to Friday. It
was a poor day when he didn’t learn
some new oath or slang expression, and final-
i ly he became so that nobody but a hardened
villain could talk with him. He was sold last
Friday for £20, and his owner kept him about
an hour and then sent him as a present to a
minister’s wife who had been attentive to his
family during sickness. ISiie was very grate
ful, having oiten thought how nice it would
be to have a talking parrot around the house.
“Jack" seemed put out by the change of
owners, and he sat on his perch all Friday
night and refused to say a word. Saturday
morning the minister’s wife started for Pou-
tiac. and she carried “Jack’s” cage into her
husband’s study that neither might be lone
some. She had been gone about an hour,
and the good man was scribbling away, when
all at once the parrot shouted:
“Hearts is trump!”
The good man gave a jump and looked out
of the window, thinking that a couple of bad
boys were playing euchre under his shade
trees. He could see no one, and, supposing
that he was mistaken, he seated himself and
began to write again, when the parrot shouted :
“Not any gin, thank ye !”
Horrified, the clergyman looked around aud
he saw “Jack” trying to wink at him. Half
doubting if it was the bird which had spoken
yet determined to find out, he inquired :
44 What?”
