The Chairman, Alderman Mecaslin, ruled the mo tion and discussion out of order until tbe charges were read. The charges were read—he being charged with be ing drunk while on duty. Aldergian McDuffie moved that he be found guilty. He was found guilty without any evidence being in troduced in his absence and was discharged. Thus closed perhaps the most remarkable trial that ever occurred. On motion the Council went into an election for an overseer of the chain-gang.
