went np after some hard struggling, yesterday
morning,at nineteen minutes past nine o'clock.
Tee Blurting point was, as usual, at the capi-
toline grounds, and ibc ;«rostat was the same
old hag, but somewhat diminished in size, .
that Professor Wise pronounced untit for any •
expedition, badly constructed and rotten from '
the weather. Although the mammoth cas-
bog was partially repaired and improved in
its arrangements, so that some sort of an as
cension became feasible, the affair arose to re
main up only fora while amt then loll pros- ■
tratc again, a complete failure. Of course it ?
was altogether too stormy yesterday, aud
there are other excuses to be given why the 1
sixty hour trip across the ocean could not be 1
made just now.
Alter rising the balloon sailed due east and
| afterwards in a northerly direction, until at
ot ibis same day of October, in 13C1, a last she faded entirely rut of sight. Carrier !
pigeons were kept in the l»a loon, and dis
pute-lie. were sent by them to ttll the where

M. Aubry do Monldiditr was a gentleman
Itontargis, iu Fiance. In passing through
t ho forest of Bondy, «ith his drg, he was set
good and murdered, and buried at the foot of

lie was not that kin<l of a dog! He did what
was much more sensible. In Paris he did
Clothing but howl ami bark, and catch the
.^.Qtaloons of his dead master’s friend nu-
'dcasantiy in his teeth, in his eft’-*it to drag
o*rt of the houso and show him where
'wioor Aubry de Alontaidier lay buried. For
- 3nre time the friend and everybody else were
v>3oetapid to understand this s'range con-
-lact, but at length, connecting Aubry’s ab
senes with the inseparable companionship of
■•fie man and dog, aud the violent pertinacity
if tho animal in attempting to draw them af-
•er him, they followed, and after a time he
Aed them to the foot of the tree in the forest
• .’f Bondy, where they dug the earth away and
has arisen. We have met with a terrible dis
aster. We fell ou the farm of Mr. Charles
L-wis, at Cana.v', Conn , at a qnarter-pist
one o’clock.”
It appears the balloon was trying lo cross a
□Helium siz d hill in ihe;ibo\e locality and
began to hug the big trees and knock its
uncouth appendages against the projecting
rocks, to the great danger of the voyagers'
limbs, ubo were shivering and shaking from
the wind and ruin in the nousensical old bag.
Then Mr. Donaldson said “he did not know
what to do,” wh^ienpon Mr. Luut suggested
“to open the valve and let the gas out of
Lor.” They were then shaken by a gust of
wind, and so violently that the good E c ‘°pl e
of Canaan could nor uuder*taud where the
screaming came flora. Donaldson then said,
“Let us all jump out.” The bag was only
thirty feet iiora the ground and soon after
only twenty feet nbove the ground. Luut
jumped into a tree and fell down through the
branches upon the rock** benrath. Donald
son and Mr. Ford jumped out simultaneously.
The dispatch further describes Mr. Lunt’s
critical position iu the air sweeping the cob
webs oft the sky and asking Donaldson for
assistance. Then Mr. Ford says, bewailing
yet resignedly, “I am sorry about th
