Rumors were lately circulated cf h:3 approaching nuptials with ac of Mdledgevilie’s fair and accomplished daughters; but I am assured by “those who }.no\Y that no foundation for the minor c.nsts. The citizens here assure me that your correspondent, “Observer,” m your . ssuc of the 4th instant did injustice to Mr. Dcugbton in several respects. This community has lately Lad another \ horror in the old role of homicide. A well known citizen residing a few miles east from Miiledgeville named Thomas Harris, a small planter; has been frequently seen here on the .-.{.reels, laying in supplies and hauuting the ippling houses. Almost always did he leave this city, “homeward bound,” greatly under the influence of intoxicating drinks. He is a c;iaat in siza -six feet and four inches in height, ®f powerful frame, weighing 2601 pounds. His age is about GO years. Saturday, while intoxicated as usual, he shot, in some trivial altercation, in her own do jt, Mrs. ^Tudy Gcff, a respectable white woman, the wife of a tenant living on his land. Har- j ris vfas promptly arrested, and now occupies j one of the largest of the apartments in the county jail awaiting a preliminary examina tion.
