A Sad Case.—A woman named Mary Smith,
alias , twenty-six years of age, highly ed
ucated and belodging to one of the most aris
tocratic families of New York, committed sui
cide by taking laudanum, at the Charity Hos
pital in New Orleans on Monday morning.
She has been in tho hospital six years, an in-
cnrable invalid. Her life is the same old
story of sin, shame and suffering. If it took
six years to decide upon this terrible deed,
what mental suffering and agony thoro must
have been in pondering over the years agone,
