Pretty Frankie Christie, a young lady of
sparkling figure, was a dancer in the can-can
at the Thostre Comique in Baltimore. By
that lavish display of her charms, which tra

strength of hi.; fi.rce young love, and proba-
ly, still more, by the unusual flavor of matri

At any rate she picked the prostrate wooer
up, and married him. Society was con

youDgcr Jenkins disowned. Afier a week of

VAX NESS, ALIAS LIVINGSTONE,
turns out to be an old and established forger.
He is about sixty-five years old, of a genteel,
venerable but cat like appearance, wearing a
perpetual smile, small gray side whiskers,
gray hair and eyes to mutch, about five ft«t
uine inches high and weighing about one
hundred aud eighty pounds. He is said to be
accompanied by a win in whom he calls his
si-ter, 1 u‘, who it is suspected ’8 tho actual
forger and expert tLat does the writing, forg
ing, etc. He is said to be connected with
some of the b< t families in New York, but
has long been known as a swindler of the
most approved order. It is stated here, that
he forged Vanderbilt's name once before, for
$75,000, received the money, was captured,
convicted and sentrnced to the State Prison
of New York, for seven years, whi -h term he
served in that institution. TIis operations
since that time have chiefly been confined to
the West and South, where they have been
quite extensive. In Nev Orleans he is said
latest of these individuals who honored Rich- j to have raised a check on Wells, Fargo & Co.,
mond with a visit for a while somewhat puz* j l° r $9,0 JO and it is believed here, tnal tueie
dom make their raids here profitable. They
are so n “spotted” after their arrivai, and if
not kcked up at once they receive a quiet in
timation to go and stand not upon the order
of their going, a hint they generally lake in
the most agreeable and prompt manner. Tho !

whole grain crop of the State in a single week
if they set about it.
A prominent farmer estimates from the
numbers dinging to ihe stalks of wheat, oats,
«fcc., as compared with the number and size of
kernels of wheat, that in Watonwan County,
where bis farm is situated, there was one
hundred bushels of grasshoppers to the acre
of all growing crops, and they were as thick
over the whole tilled area of the country west
ward to the Iowa line as in Watonwan Coun

guides their migration, but if the mysterious
impulse which impels them should unfortu

Southern and Central Minnesota they’ are
capable of devouring the entire crop of thirty
million bushels of w heal, which are now esti
